We have sold loads of stuff on Ebay and local Facebook groups. Some of it we would have just chucked away but people have bought it, sometimes for stupid amounts of money.alt80 said:@determined_new_ms I think I let it all just get out of hand and yes defensive. things haven't been great after telling my wife - she suspected I owed money but quite a few things said since and then others on the thread giving opinions about my selfishness just sent me over. Anyway made a new soa thread.
Anyone on here had much luck selling things they don't need anymore I think I could probably raise between £5-10k no where near to my level of debt but would be nice to clear some of it give me a bit of peace of mind.6 -
Think this is going to be my weekend project - making a list of things to sell. Be good to get rid of some stuff cluttering up our lives.
I've sold a few bits on Facebook last one was a massive samsonite hard shell suitcase the ones we all used to have 20 years ago but don't bother with now. Put it up on there as offers and someone picked it up for £40 ... thought it was beginners luck but maybe not.5 -
If you can sell some bits to bring the balances down, it'll reduce the miniumum payments to a more affordable amount too and give you some more breathing spacealt80 said:@determined_new_ms I think I let it all just get out of hand and yes defensive. things haven't been great after telling my wife - she suspected I owed money but quite a few things said since and then others on the thread giving opinions about my selfishness just sent me over. Alt, we sold lots of stuff early on, used gumtree and facebook, definitely helps and keeps you busy!
@determined_new_ms Hope you got on ok with the drs and that your gd is feeling better too
@carrielovesfanta A lovely post to read from you this morning
glad you've been able to get back to the gym.
@ziggy2407 Hope your son is ok with his hand (and how are you doing?)
@DawnW Hope you are feeling better too.
In the way of small things...
* banking checked, spreadsheet updated and bank contacted
* all meals from stores (cooking two chickens at the same time to make the most of the oven been on)
* emailed Mr T to complain about short date on one of the chickens and they've refunded it for me - so a free chicken dinner tonight!
* before the rain started, I got some more leaves blown and gathered in the garden - full on Autumn feeling here today!
* made more lists ready for a full week back to this new kind of normal on Monday
Have a great day all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Thanks that's want I was thinking about doing with the money. I've decided to get rid of my personal phone (contract due end of month and have a business iPhone anyway so can have two numbers on the same phone). One of my staff wants my iPhone XS for £400 which he's going to pay at the end of the month. He's happy, I'm happy. Just going to make an additional payment rather than do anything else with the money. I wouldn't have bothered cancelling the contract and would have upgraded to a new iPhone 12 whenever it comes out ordinarily so no loss there.
Really struggling with the mental side of this- haven't done any work, can't face home and generally really ashamed I didn't address this before now. Finding it really hard to sleep and I've had a panic attack (not exaggerating about that). All I can keep thinking about is the fact I've leveraged my portfolio to the point of not being able to add to it until I address the level of debt / raise further capital and reduced profitability also. Someone on here advised me against the remortgage of my home mentioned the fact its over such a long term and it hit me what I've done all to keep kidding myself that things were alright, everyone's got card balances, we all overspend, it'll sort itself out etc etc I've become so desensitised to seeing / hearing / dealing with big numbers I just think what's a couple of grand more? Need to move on and get on with getting the mess sorted I know.7 -
@alt80 - it's hard when it really hits home, but you've probably caught yourself in the nick of time before you had to default. And from here it gets better.
As someone who suffers from anxiety attacks, I know how horrible it is. Can you get outside for a walk to clear your head a bit? If you like running, a good long jog might help.LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.316 -
Yeah had it carried I would have got to the point of maxing the balances and if I couldn’t have remortgaged I would have defaulted on payments. I couldn’t admit that before. Total mess.I know people on here have had a bit of a laugh at my expense over my Range Rover but it’s the one thing I’d like to keep. I just want to keep my house and my Range Rover, be 20 again and get to make the decisions I should have with hindsight lol. I know it makes financial sense to say bye bye I’m not dumb to that fact.
Exercise is definitely good for the brain, I do quite a lot of running thanks will maybe try to get out this evening and go make myself a coffee now get on with some of my outstanding work. Thanks.5 -
Alt, taking positive steps in the right direction will definitely help. If struggling mentally etc I set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes, work on said task for that long then take the same amount of time "off" then set timer again (rinse and repeat for as long as needed), I find that, that commitment to just 10 mins helps regain my focus.
Also great that you're into running, do try and get out.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Afternoon all
DNMS, hope you had some luck getting pain killers etcZiggy, hope your son is okAlt80 sorry you have had judgemental responses on the main board. There are a couple of posters / board guides on there (Sourcrates is one) who are really helpful re defaulted debts, DMPs, IVAs etc, but it may be that this isn't the type of advice that you need - though they would be the first to say so, never seen any judgemental stuff from them. On the whole this board is quite supportive, but you always get a few. Good luck with it all. All of this thread on here have been in debt, even if we aren't now, or want to avoid it. Many of us have been posting for years, but we always like it if new people join in
Been working at the shop where I have my sales unit today, and it has been manic. Sold hundreds of pounds worth of 'stuff', sadly only £16 was mine
Really wish I cba with jewellery rather than kitchenalia, garden bits and general tat lol Other than that -Early morning dog walk, free exercise, first time for a few days as I haven't felt up to it till today
Using up bananas for breakfast, the ones delivered the other day were riper than I would have likedI put a load of washing in before I went, OH pegged it outside to dry when done, all in nowTook a roll with mozzarella from the freezer and home grown cucumber for lunch, and home made banana bread for snacks for myself and colleague. Didn't get chance to eat my roll till 2pm!Dinner will be pesto pasta, made a big batch of pesto a couple of days ago, so a cheap meal
Must check banks, as OH has just spent what is to me an eye watering amount renewing his golf club membership, we have the money, but I need to make sure it is where it needs to be!3 -
Hi all
DNMS - hope the doctors can help with the pain relief
Ziggy - hope your son’s hand is OK and he’s not in too much pain
Alt80 - I’ve been reading along this week and you should be so proud of yourself for how you’ve faced up to your money issues head-on. Ignore any judgemental comments (if you can, I know how difficult that can be) and just focus on the fact that you have taken your first steps to becoming debt free. It may be a long road but, as a long-time lurker on this page, you will have a pretty good support network here
My week has not been great. On Monday I had such high hopes for the week but between being slammed at work and having to work a little extra here and there to catch-up, and being under the weather, this week has felt like an absolute fail. Hopefully I can catch up on a few bits during the weekend so I have a better week next week. Not much planned this evening now other than some knitting to relax and quickly checking PMP/Prolific/Swagbucks. Will be back tomorrow with a plan for the weekend.B x4
