Going to have another look at my budget later. Try to stop being so personal about it and consider it objectively.
Not for today but I’ve worked out I’ve got enough for essentials to not make any credit card spends for the rest of the month. Going to set myself the challenge of having an essentials only month and spending £250 on fuel total.5 -
@alt80 excellent progress. It is really hard to make the first steps as it can really feel unfair. But with a bit of luck, the frugal stage doesn't last forever. We paid off £10k of debt on a yearly salary of about £28k and then another £7.5k on a combined salary of about £35k so it can be done. It felt brutal at the time but it was 100% worth it!
We were really grateful we'd paid it off and started some savings as I was suddenly made redundant in April and had to take a salary cut and my OH lost all his work dt covid (he's a musician).
The debts don't make you a bad person or a failure - just someone who made a bit of mistake - that's why most of us are here! What matters is moving forward with purpose!LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.315 -
@carrielovesfanta That's amazing progress and shows it can be done, you should be very proud of the progress you've made. 🙂 Covid has been brutal on the arts, hope your OH is back gigging soon.
All very raw at the moment. I knew I was spending beyond my means but tried to kid myself about it for too long. I'll admit that much but a lot of people on here are very judgey. This post is good though for a bit of accountability.5 -
thanks doll you are a sweetheart xcarrielovesfanta said:
Big covid-safe hugs! It sounds miserable and I hope the doctor can help xxdetermined_new_ms said:Morning - I'm not feeling the Friday feeling
I have a telephone gp appt at some point and hoping they will give me pain relief to get me through to Tuesday, and a diazapan so I can actually get to the dentist and have the work done....
Madam not feeling well either so she is upstairs in bed. Need to decide if we need to get a covid test done, will speak to oh who is coming to work from home so he can look after madam when I'm incapacitated.
Today again I have low expectations of myself....
* just got some burgers out of freezer for tea. I will have soup again
* tidy up & TOMM
* watch a film and knit with madam. She might even want to pick up her knitting
* sand windowsills, skirting boards, door frames & doors in the kitchen
* cut out fabric to make top
* deal with veg from allotment. Need to nip to the allotment at some point to pick raspberries
* get oh to contact the builder to see when he is coming to do our work
* make an apple crumble to use up glut of apples & make a banana bread to use up some brown bananas
Ok that's allDF as at 30/12/16

I've been posting on this thread for a decade! We've all become friends over the years and know about each others ups and downs, never judgey!alt80 said:@carrielovesfanta That's amazing progress and shows it can be done, you should be very proud of the progress you've made. 🙂 Covid has been brutal on the arts, hope your OH is back gigging soon.

@determined_new_ms seems so on this page tbf. I was hoping to post a new soa / budget up when I'd finished it to get some views as some things people have said have been really helpful but not sure its a good idea now (not this page, a post I made became judgey and personal to the extreme).2

people are just giving their opinions, it's just someone's opinion and probably given in good faith. You can chose to take their opinion on board or not and that's fine. Probably you are feeling defensive so take the input as negative. Try to keep in mind they are only offering their opinion to be helpful. Post it, what have you got to lose?alt80 said:@determined_new_ms seems so on this page tbf. @determined_new_ms I think I let it all just get out of hand and yes defensive. things haven't been great after telling my wife - she suspected I owed money but quite a few things said since and then others on the thread giving opinions about my selfishness just sent me over. Anyway made a new soa thread.
Anyone on here had much luck selling things they don't need anymore I think I could probably raise between £5-10k no where near to my level of debt but would be nice to clear some of it give me a bit of peace of mind.5 -
yes when we originally sold loads of stuff to put towards the debt. Feels good as well to get rid of things cluttering up your lifealt80 said:@determined_new_ms I think I let it all just get out of hand and yes defensive. things haven't been great after telling my wife - she suspected I owed money but quite a few things said since and then others on the thread giving opinions about my selfishness just sent me over.
