This is a non sequitur. @kinger101 has very specific reasons for avoiding Ulster Bank. Nobody has mentioned ethics or any moral code until you now.
This is thread digression of the worst kind.
If it were discovered they were financing the paramilitaries, knowingly contributing to global warming, fleecing the poor, mis-selling various products, it wouldn't make an iota of a difference to those wishing to line their pockets for free.
False. I'd be even more glad to take money from them.

I don't agree. @kinger101 gave example of why it might be best to avoid Ulster Bank and I responded by saying they won't listen, in so many words. Clearly I was right and my comment is completely valid. I wager there is nothing that could be said against Ulster Bank that would stop many on here going for the free money - unless the issue was they weren't paying out. If it were discovered they were financing the paramilitaries, knowingly contributing to global warming, fleecing the poor, mis-selling various products, it wouldn't make an iota of a difference to those wishing to line their pockets for free.

If you really think this is 'thread digression of the worst kind' you have led a very sheltered life, lol!
A trumpian response if ever I heard one!

How so? I made a comment that most of the prolifics on here would be happy to take the free money regardless of what the bank was like and the comments since my post have shown that I was right. This forum is very different from all the other forums I visit in that what I thought were the norms of debate seem not to apply here. I could have a great ethical debate elsewhere with people who care, but here I am effectively shouted down every time for daring to suggest there is an ethical dimension to banks and to acquiring free money. Always by the same few prolifics too.

I'd not touch Ulster Bank.  I had what was supposed to be an instant access savings account with them, in which I had money for a house deposit.  Unfortunately, when I came to withdraw the money (for a house purchase), they told me I needed an electronic secure key generation card to do this, which they'd not bothered to send me when I opened the account.  This took over a week for them to send.  Luckily, I had access to other capital, otherwise I would have needed to visit a branch to get access to my cash.  Which would have meant a trip to Northern Ireland.

They were completely unapologetic  about the fact they'd potentially put me in situation where I would have failed to complete.
They were completely right to be unapologetic. It is down to the account holder to ensure that they are satisfied that they can withdraw their money. The ‘hurdles’ at Ulster are completely reasonable, and in our interests, as they ensure that fraudsters can’t withdraw our funds.

As far as the Ulster current account is concerned, as soon as you have your debit card, PIN and online/app access, you can withdraw your funds by Faster Payment, at ATMs, or debit card purchases. Just like any other current account.

As an aside, I also had (and still have) an Ulster Bank savings account. I made several withdrawals from it by Faster Payment. Never once had a problem with it.

You are welcome to make your point. It's just you do it again and again and again and often when it is totally out of context.

It really is getting a bit tedious.

And as I have said before, your point of view does have some validity. Unfortunately, constantly bringing it up just devalues your argument.

The prolifics keep on posting over and over again about grabbing free money, I surely have the right to post the other side of the argument. It would be great if this forum actually fulfilled its brief and discussed bank accounts and budgeting. I have rarely seen a bank recommended unless there is a bribe of free money involved - it's like that's the only criterion.
