Thanks for the recommendation.
We can smell the dogs so I'm fairly certain he can. This has definitely reminded me why we have a non shedding dog who is bathed and groomed on a regular basis!
No matter how much we vacuum hair keeps appearing. I accidentally uncovered the grim state behind the lower kitchen cupboard plinth earlier, was cleaning the plinth and it slid across to reveal a nightmare of dog hair. I slid it back. That was not a job for today I'm afraid 🤣🤣🤣
We will get on top of it I'm sure. Thankfully spring is here so we can keep throwing the windows open.

It is good to hear you are in your new home.
Sorry to hear that you didn't complete until 3 pm and the house and garden had not been cleaned before the previous residents moved out. Despite being frustrating at least you know you were kinder to your buyers and it won't be long until you have it exactly the way you want it.

Good to hear you are in! Not nice to come in to something that's not been properly cleaned, but once that's done, you will feel you own every inch.

The house is now definitely smelling a lot fresher. The more we clean the more the smell fades.
Yesterdays job was a defrost and deep clean of the inbuilt fridge freezer. It was disgusting. We don't even know what some of the "things" were that were floating around in the defrosted water pools when we got home!!
It has had a very thorough clean and disinfect. Opened it this morning and it was ten times better. This weekends job will be actually buying some fresh food to put in it. We are living on store cupboard food this week. Pasta bake tonight.
We do have plans to replace the fridge at some point. It is very small and we don't think it is in the best health to be honest, although that could just have been the amount of ice build up in the freezer. Our final plan is to take out the inbuilt fridge freezer and unit, slide the double oven and cupboard unit across to where the fridge was and then that leaves a nice big space for an american style fridge freezer. Not a high priority job if we can squeeze some more life out of this fridge though.

I find it shocking that your sellers didn't defrost the freezer, but completely in character with other things they (haven't) done.

Given the general lack of cleanliness we have found elsewhere we are in some ways glad they didn't. We know that we have done a proper job of it having done it ourselves!

We have appealed to our new energy suppliers good nature this morning. Our supply is due to switch over on Friday. The current cheapest tariff they offer is 6.5p per kwh cheaper for electric than the deal we signed up for last week at the height of the Iran war fuel price panic.
We asked if they would switch us to the cheaper tariff because our contract hadn't technically started yet and they surprisingly said yes. Not only that but they had literally just released a version of the tariff that was slightly cheaper still.
With the amount of electric this house seems to eat through it will end up being quite a saving over a year.
On that note we have been hunting around the house for things we can turn off in the vain hope of saving a few quid here and there. So far the immersion heater is off and the Tesla charger is off at the isolator. I'm sure we will find more things as we hunt around.
I've also been fiddling with the heating timers and thermostats. The previous owners had the temperature set to 25 degrees all day and 20 degrees over night. Little wonder they got through so much gas each year. We had commented how hot the house felt when we viewed, we know why now. I've set it to a much more reasonable temperature of 19 degrees for an hour in the morning while we get up for work, 16 degrees in the day when we are at work and 20 degrees from 5-9 after work with 16 degrees again over night.
The house will wonder what is happening!
