  • Just need to decide what we are doing with the extra now. The pay rise and the national insurance changes will give us a decent chunk to put somewhere.

I expect some will go to the mortgage overpayment and some to savings but I would like to put some extra towards the credit card repayments as well. See if we can get that gone quicker than anticipated.

The other half is calling today my day off. I'm already disagreeing with him 🤣🤣🤣

It's going to be a busy day. He has been packed off to work with the dog out of the way.

So far this morning I have got the hob pan stands and burners in the dishwasher, got the van bedding on a wash, cleaned out the fridge and sorted the Christmas meat from the garage freezer (need a bigger fridge!), sorted and cleaned out the food cupboard and cleaned the bathrooms.

I'm having a sit down now while I wait for the man to come and clean the ovens at 9am.

Then I have two more loads of bedding to put through the washer dryer, the extractor filters to put through the dishwasher, vacuuming the house, cleaning the van, dusting the house and at some point finding time to go out for some fresh air and a walk and grabbing a bite to eat!

I will be ready for a couple of drinks later.
  • Congratulations on your pay rise.

An alternative plan for the  additional money is pay it all towards the credit card until the 0% finishes in the summer and then reassess once you have a new deal. It will only be for 6 or 7 months. Any balance transfer fees will be less. Then you plan to repay the credit card in 12 months, splitting the remaining money between the mortgage and savings. Once the card is paid off you will then have an additional £400+ per month to share between savings/mortgage/other plans.

Good idea to split the extra money.  Definitely put extra to paying of the CC so that there is less to transfer to another card next year when the current 0% runs out (but would be good if you could get a 0% transfer fee card!).  I think I'd also pay a good bit to the mortgage OP so that you need to borrow less when you remortgage in 2026 and then anything left to savings.

I'm exhausted just reading how much you're planning to do!  You'll definitely we ready for a couple of drinks tonight!

I agree with you it's not a day off 😆 Hope you get it all done in time to enjoy a beer with your feet up later.

Enjoy your "day off" - I hope you enjoy a couple of drinks much more than said day off 🤣

The family descend today so it will be chaos here for the next four days 🙄

Just enjoying the last few quiet hours before they arrive at about 10am. Rather them than me in a little car on the motorway today. The wind is terrible again here!

Have a good one mate. Having done the hosting a big family Christmas plenty of times, I don’t envy you tbh but I’m sure you will enjoy it- it can be great fun tbf just !!!!!! knackering. I didn’t do hardly any cooking pre covid and I know how hard it was on my wife when we used to host Christmas.
