Only 4 years out of a washing machine? I'd expect much longer! I've had my washing machine for 6 years, no hint of issues and it wasn't expensive!
Ours gets quite a hammering with the other half's work gear.

It is a washer dryer which are not renown for their longevity.

Not a no spends day today. We are going to the supermarket after work to do the shop for the weekend.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are from stores. Breakfast was crumpets, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is spag bol with garlic bread.

Tonight we need to go through the house and clean it top to bottom ready for our friends coming tomorrow evening. It won't take long if we both crack on with it.
  • Just had an email from our energy supplier confirming our new energy prices from April.

They estimate that we will be paying an extra £533 per year after April and that doesn't factor in any more increases come October when the cap is reviewed again.

Our standing charge for electric has gone from 18.9p to 44.75p per day with the unit rate changing from 20.89p per kWh to 27.62p per kWh.

Gas standing charge was 18.9p and has gone to 27.2p per day and gas rates are changing from 4.2p per kWh to 7.28p per kWh.

We will be looking at an increase of just under £45 per month.

    I'm dreading getting mine, I wouldn't be surprised if it's £100 a month more.

That's a big jump in Standing Charges!  It might be worth looking at other suppliers to see if you'd be any better off with them.

I've not heard from mine yet but am absolutely certain it's going to go up to well over £100 a month.

I have had a quick look and it looks like our current supplier is still going to be the cheapest for us.

All of the suppliers have increased their electricity standing charges. It's obvious why. They are covering their costs of providing the £200 loan in October.

We are below average users and it is still a massive increase for us  :/

Will probably look to find ways we can decrease our consumption in time for next winter.

The S/C increase in the cap is largely because of all the failed suppliers and the SOLR processes that so many people have had to go through as a result. That's the reason why it's hitting the electric side more than gas - because everyone has electric for the most part, so it's seen as a fairer way of making sure everyone contributes.

Having seen what looks likely to happen with our Economy 7 rates I reckon we're going to be lucky to get away with our bill doing much less than doubling. :frowning:

I'm trying to think how old our W/D is - in fact I've just searched emails to see. It'll be 7 years old in June, it seems. That's a Hotpoint one. The previous indesit did about 10 IIRC.

£411 paid to the car HP loan this morning which sees that account now settled.

It will be a no spends day other than that, Number 5 for February. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was cereals, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is pizza, garlic bread and a few other bits and pieces, maybe some potato wedges and onion rings.

We have friends coming to stay with us for the weekend. They will most likely be waiting for us when we get home from work tonight. Looking forward to having a good catch up with them. Its been a long while since we have had a proper weekend together.

The dog did not want to get up this morning. We have had to drag him out of bed to come to work. Think he has the right idea.
