Is this van more your OHs idea?

I think you’ll find the remote heating etc more useful than you first think - if you’re using the van in winter. My Range Rover has an app, can set climate from phone. Lot more use than you first think never had to use an ice scraper since I’ve had this one.
No the van was both of ours idea.

We are not really the sorts to be staying in hotels. We prefer to have our own accomodation with us and to head out and travel. We don't like being stuck in one place for too long. Cabin fever starts to set in if we are in the same place for more than a night or so :D

You do know you can stay 1-2 nights and move on lol? Tbf I don’t really get the van mate but you seem to be getting a lot of use from it and from the pics you’ve posted the accommodation looks pleasant. I’d say it’s probably going to be value for you using it how you do. Actually like the idea of being able to go on a weekend away on whim, no booking/ planning. Has made me think if I ever do get my AM, probably won’t get on a plane again I don’t really like flying usually get completely !!!!!! wasted which is no good - go on some driving holidays instead I’d def like that and there’s a lot of nice places in the UK/ France so I get it from that perspective just couldn’t live with the diesel van lol.

@RelievedSheff - rather than using the rear view mirror try using the door mirrors you'll have a much better view of the road behind.  Rear view mirrors aren't much use in a motorhome, particularly if they're not adjusted properly!  We don't even have a rear view mirror in our van as there is no window at the back, just a solid wall!

The rear view mirror is no use at all. There isn't a window in the back. It is literally just a view of the fridge :)
Might as well remove it then!  I really can't understand why they bother putting a rear view mirror in when there is no window at the back - it's not needed!

I'm like you with hotels!  I'd far rather be sleeping in my own accommodation and doing my own thing than having to stay somewhere with other people.

Until we got this van I wasn't sure how we would get on travelling in it but I actually quite like the better vantage point being sat high up affords. We can see far more not only of the road ahead but also of the surroundings. We have spotted more hares and deer in the last couple of weeks than I can ever remember just by being able to see over the hedges rather than looking at them!

Once in it and on the road you really don't get much engine noise from it.

I think it will be a comfortable ride for long distance trips. The big comfy captains chairs really make travelling nice and easy on the body.

I don't really like flying much either. I can't see us doing much flying now we have the van although once Covid has settled down we are really looking forward to a couple of EU road trips with the van and the dog.

The cab blinds fit round it. If we remove it there will be a big hole in the blinds where it should be and as flimsy as they are the cab blinds are stupidly expensive to replace!!

I am booked in for my first Covid jab on Wednesday evening after work.

Fingers crossed it doesn't knock me about as much as it did the other half.

Our last van was the exact opposite of yours - we had to remove the rear view mirror in order to close the blinds!  I've never heard of or seen a blind that fits round the rear view mirror - that's a new one on me!

Hope you're OK with the jab tomorrow - I was knocked for 6 with the first one but fine with the second one.  Even if it knocks you out for a while at least you know it will only be for a couple of days at the most and you'll have a good amount of protection within a couple of weeks.

They are fiddly blighters to close the windscreen blinds due to fitting round the mirror.

You can probably make out from this picture the shape of them.
