Did not expect the Royal Bank of Scotland to be owned by a multinational corporation....
RBS collapsed in 2008 because of the multi-national ambitions of its megalomaniac boss Fred Goodwin, aka Fred The Shred, whose knighthood was annulled by the Queen on 1 February 2012. The bank was rescued by the State.
Until earlier this year, the group name remained RBS Group. In an effort to shake off the awful legacy, they are now known as the Natwest Group. The constituent subsidiaries remain the same for now.
Much more on this on Google if you want.
I had thought that RBS was like the Bank of England.
Thanks for the info, good to know.0 -

I'd conflated the card reader activation with the phone number "change" (I assumed the card reader was used as the 2FA for login, but it's the one-time text message which prevents you from getting the restricted menu options i.e. no mailbox, statements etc.). It will only prompt for the text message on login after 3 days have elapsed (as colsten and others tried to explain upthread). Enable card reader is now available for me (presumably they've sent theirs out), but I used an old Ulster bank one fine (and now I can set up payees).Regarding the phone number "change" during online banking registration it asks for it in international format whereas previously it wasn't, so maybe the programmers forgot to omit matching on the first +44X characters/numbers. As an aside our BT handset seems to match the last 6 numbers at most, as we found out when someone called recently with the exact last 6 as someone else and the wrong name came up from the internal phonebook....anyway Fred the Shred, yeah the guy who put domes on the filing cabinets in the office so people couldn't abandon paperwork on top of them. Nice he got the detail right.0

...and my switch completed and I've already cycled my £1500 so should be good for my ton in January 2021 unless I've forgotten anything?!

Agree, it sounds as if you have met all the conditions for the switch bonus.miller said:...and my switch completed and I've already cycled my £1500 so should be good for my ton in January 2021 unless I've forgotten anything?!
The only other thing you could consider is the Reward scheme, which works well with 2 Reward accounts but involves some extra work each month.1 -

I thought I was going to have the same problem as those mentioned before but when I signed in and it asked for my new mobile number (which is the same one) I gained access without any problem and also found out my account number.bluenun said:Is there a way to avoid getting locked out at this stage?
I have just been sent my customer number by email and am waiting for the activation code to arrive by text.
I have the card, PIN, activation code, customer number, security number and password.
Just have to wait for the card reader now although my Nationwide one might work.
No rush though.
Maybe they've finally sorted it out for new logins.

Nationwide, RBS and Natwest card readers are identical bar the branding, and all work on each others accounts.bluenun said:

Same for the Ulster and COOP ones. Even the Barclays one is interchangeable, though it looks different to all the others.kaMelo said:

Can anyone tell me if the number to register the card reader should be 7 or 8 digits, I have tried my Nationwide reader and only get 7 digits as in 1234 567 and have read from an eariler thread that is should be 8 digits 12345678? I don't want to try too many times to avoid the card being locked.
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!0 -
