I've done the activation (which I think ordered one by default), so have access to their restricted online version - but when I click on enable card reader (so as to use one of the numerous ones I have), I cannot proceed (assuming they've not sent it out yet).

Yes, I wasn't able to activate mine straight away too, but was able to by the time it had arrived.

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

I believe you have to wait around 3 days before you get full access to your online account.
  • I received my card today, with no account number on it! RBS seem to be very cloak and dagger about banking, I’ve never experienced such a painfully drawn out application process before. Will the account number arrive tomorrow, The card PIN the day after? The online app four digit pin the day after that? Then the card reader? Probably have to ask for that separately too.

Happened this to me as well. I called them to get the account number so that I can set up my DDs. They asked some security questions and gave me the account number straightaway. On more annoying thing that happened to me was, after getting activation code when I tried to login to my online banking, it asked me to mention the mobile number but somehow it trigerred as if I am changing my mobile number and it restricted me for full 3 days i.e. I can only do some certain things on online banking but cna only register to app banking after full 3 days has past.  Interestingly my old and new mobile number were same, so not sure how it considered as a change.  I called up CS and even they couldnt offer any help as this is all systematic and only system can allow you once full 3 days has past.  So just be careful when you get the activation code and try to loginto online banking.
  • This whole process reminds me why I don't change my main Current Account that often. Try adding your new card to Google/Apple Pay!!! 😂
  • Think the admin overkill on this bank might have something to do with the fact it’s majority owned by the British Govt which means layers and layers of superfluous digital ‘paperwork’ had to be created!?

Indeed. The only clue was the last 4 digits of the account number on the sheet of paper the card was attached to. Mine said something like "here's your new debit card for account ending xxxx"

I now have several RBS and NatWest accounts and it's going to be a nightmare keeping track of which identical card belongs to which account. I've ended up having to stick post it notes on each one with part of the account numbers!

Go into the app and in each account, "Manage my card". It shows you the last 4 digits of the card and your account number. It's a right old pain that they don't print the account number on their cards (same with Natwest and Ulster)

That was actually remarkably quick for most of my Natwest and RBS cards BUT on one of them, I didn't check / correct the expiry date that had automatically been scanned - and that was totally wrong. This sent me into a rabbit hole, having to call Natwest on two different numbers, then was sent to the app, which didn't help. I then decided to remove the rogue card and start again, and it was added within a minute. Lesson: check the expiry date has been captured correctly
