Can anyone post a news or police report where the cause was a diy repair to a tyre?

Forgive me, I'm new to this forum and was wondering if this thread is reflective of normal discussion on here?
Professional qualifications and legislation aside, are posters seriously advocating DIY puncture repair as a viable long term option when you can simply go to the local garage and pay the apprentice mechanic a nominal fee toward his weekend beer fund?
I'm all for DIY and saving a few bob but sounds like madness to me considering the consequences should something go wrong.
Food for thought regarding some of the "advice" to be found on here.
You're new, yet you are able to make a judgement about quality of advice on the whole of the motoring side of the forum.  I've got an itchy chin.  Must be from when I was on my local beach.  That sand seems to get everywhere.
    A rather rude response.

I was not passing judgement, merely making a statement that going by the content of this thread I would be mindful regarding advice on other threads.  But if it makes you feel better to belittle posters who disagree with you and/or have a low post count then fair enough.
I'm sorry if you felt my response was rude.  Just seemed odd to comment on the whole forum while only just coming across it.
You are making a massive assumption there as who on earth do you know if this poster had not been reading this forum, thread before they joined? I agree with the poster that what you said to them was very rude and unnecessary and uncalled for as anyone can make a comment that is registered and you have been here long enough to know that. I hope you've not stopped the new poster from posting by your rudeness, again.
Rudeness again - I had the decency to apologise.  Normally when people have been "lurking" (forum speak for reading but not posting) they mention this.  I made an assumption, yes - but I apologised to that poster.  You have been rabble rousing in this forum for days now making it a very unpleasant place to be for all.  You are intolerant, rude and argumentative.  Overall on this forum, I am close to 2.5k likes.  I offer help where I can, and will always own up for gaps in my knowledge.  You selectively edit all the time which is disingenuous at best.  You never own up to a gap in knowledge or judgement which means you will unfortunately face a position where people question your credibility.  Like I said, the most important thing to know is what you DON'T know.  When found out, you simply delete the post, rather than admit an error.

Admitting being erroneous isn't a weakness, it's a massive massive strength.  I wish our politicians would learn this lesson.

Remember we learn more from our errors than we do from getting things right.
The rude statement you made has been made by many others at new posters and you will only be too aware of that hence your rude statement. It's not me saying it first but the poster in question. You've been here for long enough to know better that people can read for a long while and decide to register to post.  The "weakness" I noted was your rudeness and its not a one of thing either judging by your posts over the last few days.

you said you "apologised" well I was not aware of that when I posted as I read posts in date order and if I see something nasty, I will either respond to it or support the poster that the nastiness has been aimed at like I did.

An apology is only worth something when one does not constantly go around being rude and then when picked up on it, apologise as it diminishes the sincerity of the apology.

I for one have had enough of the comments aimed at me and others and will ignore you from now.  I just hope that you change for the better ie no more rude posts as at times you can make an interesting post.
    Thank you.

Well, it looks like I've been royally crushed by a landslide of 2 forum likes to 1. I'll forward this result onto BSI and see if they'll update their regs for the next revision.

Jez it was a reasonable enough question in the beginning, where did the intollerant trolls come from.
Well this will probably cause some on here to have a heart-attack but going back years ago when most weekends during the summer I would be towing a boat about behind a Reliant Scimitar I used to fix small punctures like this with superglue.  Always used good quality Loctite and injected it deep into the hole with a needle and syringe but superglue all the same.  Never failed, even at high temperature extreme motorway speeds.

Did someone report Mr_Spoon's post about me being a teenager and my mild riposte? Both posts seem to have gone. No idea why - I took no offence and I assume the honourable gentleman didn't either. ?????

Why is everyone reporting each other? What for?

I actually agree with Mr_Spoon-  advising people to fix their own tyres with temporary repair kits and treat them as permanent repairs is wrong.
Reporting that we've done it before without any problem, but that if it fails the fixer could be up to their neck in doo-doo as well as injuring someone seems to answer the question asked.

Rather like extinguishing a cigarette in petrol- plenty of people have done it loads of times but I wouldn't advise you to try it. ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • I haven't reported them? then again I've never put a cigarette out in petrol either, does it work?
