Forgive me, I'm new to this forum and was wondering if this thread is reflective of normal discussion on here?
Professional qualifications and legislation aside, are posters seriously advocating DIY puncture repair as a viable long term option when you can simply go to the local garage and pay the apprentice mechanic a nominal fee toward his weekend beer fund?
I'm all for DIY and saving a few bob but sounds like madness to me considering the consequences should something go wrong.
Food for thought regarding some of the "advice" to be found on here.
You're new, yet you are able to make a judgement about quality of advice on the whole of the motoring side of the forum.  I've got an itchy chin.  Must be from when I was on my local beach.  That sand seems to get everywhere.
    A rather rude response.

I was not passing judgement, merely making a statement that going by the content of this thread I would be mindful regarding advice on other threads.  But if it makes you feel better to belittle posters who disagree with you and/or have a low post count then fair enough.
I'm sorry if you felt my response was rude.  Just seemed odd to comment on the whole forum while only just coming across it.

If the plug has blown out how do you know one was there on the first place.
Because the abraded hole and glue residue would suggest it, and it would be very difficult to drive on the tyre with the abraded hole if there hadn't been something in it.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

You are making a massive assumption there as who on earth do you know if this poster had not been reading this forum, thread before they joined? I agree with the poster that what you said to them was very rude and unnecessary and uncalled for as anyone can make a comment that is registered and you have been here long enough to know that. I hope you've not stopped the new poster from posting by your rudeness, again.

I've had 'professionally' repaired tyres go down without warning. The one I repaired myself lasted the life of the tyre on a Mercedes C series; about 30K miles.
What does that prove, nothing to be honest.
Goes without saying that on the whole the "professionally" repaired tyres will be road legal and only repaired if they can be repaired and there are no ifs and no buts about that.
I strongly recommed as others have here do not take a dangerous risk by repairing the tyre yourself especially one that won't be rapired by a professional outfit as it is deemed unsafe. Its just not worth the risk to others.

I assume there is bad blood between certain posters on here that I'm not aware of?

Long and short of it, I think we can all agree that advising people they should run around with a tyre string puncture repair as a permanent fix is very bad advice.

No we can't. I did so without falter for 3 years and 44k miles.

Hands up everyone who agrees with Mr_Spoon? Lets see how many likes your post gets versus mine - that'll be as good a poll as anything: i.e. ultimately worthless but interesting all the same. :)
