Has anyone tried fixing a puncture with one of these DIY rubber plug kits? Just wondered how successful it was.
Thanks,

Yes, and very. (Albeit my kit is the tar string type - not sure if you're meaning the same thing). I repaired the rear tyre on my motorbike, and also a front tyre on my car. Both tyres lasted their full expected lifetime with the repairs in place and never lost any pressure (at least not more so than any other tyre). I have also repaired tyres for a couple of stranded motorists without issue.
I have the kit in my car right now.1 -
I also have repaired several tyres using this kit. Started when the tyre place refused to repair an almost new tyre as the hole was too near the edge. I bought a kit, repaired it and the repair lasted over two years till I replaced the vehicle. Since then I have repaired tyres for neighbours, daughter and a work friend. All OK but some steel reinforced tyres are hard to get the tool into.1

I've used the original wide rubber ones, and those cure-c-cure rubber doughnuts with great success. The grey ones get noted at MOT time, but never used to be a fail, I had one back tyre with three of them in.It is a bit of a risk though, if the plug comes out the tyre will deflate very quickly, as you have to drill a wider hole.I'm less impressed by the strings though, they don't have to be stretched and just don't feel as tight a fit in the hole.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

explains BS. Tyre have to be reapired properly and if you get a blow out at speed after a porrly, non legal repair of a tyre as per BS rules and injre or worse someone else, .... then read the link that tells you clearly why a tyre can and cannot be repaired safely and legally.
