Confused with quaranteen rule

Why would you deliberately break the rules? Just to go food shopping? The rules are there in an attempt to stop the virus spreading. Is it too much to ask that people follow them?bradders1983 said:
How do they disprove you have nobody else in your life able to go and do a shop for you?silvercar said:
Yes, I do know more than one. I am talking about people I know who are quarantining after being abroad getting phone calls, not people that were on my flight.QuackQuackOops said:
First of all, "people"...so out of the very rare random checks you know more than one?silvercar said:
I know of people that have had phone calls, checking that they are home. One call was to a mobile and they were asked to switch the TV on and confirm what was showing on a random station.Dr_Crypto said:It’s 14 days starting from when you leave France, providing you don’t do anything on your return leg. So 7 days once you get home.
There is no enforcement at all but those are the rules.
Second of all, noone is obliged to answer questions of anyone phoning.
Thirdly, it is permitted to leave the home to go shopping, care for a relative, escape from harm etc etc which makes a mockery of the whole thing.
It was brought in as an appeasing gesture as people were demanding it....but really, noone gives a hoot about it.
You can only go shopping for essentials if you can't manage any other way. So supermarket deliveries, local take away deliveries etc Near to me you can even get deliveroo to go to the nearby co-op! Plus the option of asking friends or neighbours to help you out. You would have to be quite isolated to not have any options available to you. I accept that surviving on say take away pizza for 2 weeks may not be desirable, but I guess most people have some pasta in stock and some food in the freezer.

Some people dont want to, or can't, rely on others. My point is perfectly valid, how do they prove you have nobody to help you out? You know as well as I do the whole thing is a poorly thought out farce.0

If you can't then fair enough, "don't want to" is not a valid reason. At worst you can contact NHS volunteers who will help you.bradders1983 said:Some people dont want to, or can't, rely on others. Proving you could easily have got a deliveroo/ take out delivery or a supermarket shopping slot would be straight forward.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. And how do they differentiate between cant and wont? Farce. They arent going to start trawling supermarket website booking slots. What if you dont have the internet and the capability to book slots? No different to people potentially not having a TV set.
More holes in the rules than a Swiss cheese.0 -
I think we are done with this.bradders1983 said:And how do they differentiate between cant and wont? Farce. They arent going to start trawling supermarket website booking slots. To me it is like speeding on the motorway or overstaying a parking ticket, if you do so you risk getting caught and fined. Upto the individual if they want to take the risk.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I am not done, merely pointing out that its a farce. Ask people what is on telly? "I Dont have a TV". Ask people why they didnt book an internet shopping slot? "I dont have the internet". Simple.0

I think it is a farce. Too many exemptions and not enough enforcement. Same with everything to do with this virus in the UK. Most of it is theatre and they’re relying on most people following most of the rules.0

There's nothing to stop people driving on the other side of the road. Of course they don't do it as endangers the lives of themselves, their passengers and other road users. Surely common sense should dictate that a disease which is overwhemingly carried by individuals asymptomatically should be treated with caution.Dr_Crypto said:I think it is a farce. Surely if they check and you haven't even phoned to ask if NHS volunteers can pick up essential food items for you, then that would be a won't opposed to a can't. I think if you phone NHS volunteers they will ask you if you have exhausted all other options before volunteering to help.bradders1983 said:And how do they differentiate between cant and wont? Farce. If you've just come back from holiday I think it's reasonable to expect that you need food items ASAP as things like bread, milk and fresh fruit and veg won't have kept from before when you went and that if quarantine restrictions have been imposed while you've been away that you may not have a slot for delivery already reserved.0 -
NHS volunteers will do shopping for people returning from abroad? Link, please.0
