Is it the class 2 HGV that he is doing? I really hope that he a job shortly after passing and you can recoup some of the money nice and quickly.
Re childcare, are there any other families locally that you could share childcare with.  Perhaps on the days you are not working you take care of them and the days you and OH are working they take care of them?  Also make full use of free school clubs

It’s the class 1 so he will be able to drive class 1 and 2 when he finally passes.

No we don’t really have much help. I used to have my nan help out now and again if we were desperate but she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s now so I can’t leave the kids with her anymore. She’s still functioning but not that well.

It’s more a case of knowing what we’re both expected to work. If I’m only doing 3 long days then 2 of them can be on his days off. Or he could get a night job or early mornings and be home for school pick up. It’s just a case of knowing then we can work it out.

Tbh they said in interview the service runs 8-8 and 8-4 of a weekend but I don’t think that’s really true. In all my years in the trust I’ve never seen an ASN after 5pm and they’re rarely in on weekends.

Fabulous that its the class 1.  XH had to work on class 2 for a while before being able to do class 1.  It is the not knowing that really isn't helpful.  I'm sure it will all work out well.  When does the new job start

Yeah they changed the rules due to the driver shortage.

I don’t know yet. Probably be at least 2-3 months by the time he goes through and I’ve worked my notice. X

Thanks everyone! They called me earlier about the job. Basically it’s mine but they have to go through the advertising and recruitment process from scratch as it’s a different job so not sure how long that’s gonna take but I’m in no rush.

Today is payday. I went out Saturday night for a 30th and spent way too much so now I’m acting like I’ve not been paid. I’ve just paid all the credit cards down a touch.... my kitchen/ bathroom debt was £12,000 now I’m down to £9,200 so it is getting there! I’m prioritising these over the mortgage overpayments as it just makes more sense.

No news on the hgv front. I’ve just booked a bank shift for Friday. I’m on annual leave but I’m just sat around the house so I might as well earn £150 for at least one day. Probably do the same next Friday too.

It could only happen to us couldn't it.... the hgv school basically can’t be bothered rebooking a test and want to give us a refund for the test. I am absolutely livid, it’s not a case of getting a refund and going elsewhere because other companies are going to want us to pay for so many lessons with them first which come in at £200 a lesson 😭😭😭😭 I am absolutely livid. I have sent them a big email saying I’m not happy with their service. It’s disgusting they invoice me and I had to pay for everything in advance but then when it comes to providing the service they can’t be bothered.

God knows how that’s gonna get paid back now. I’ve had a row with OH because he thinks looking at a website is going to get him earning money. I am also fuming with myself for taking the chance on him. I never should have done it. I am a first class mug. 2 whole months worth of wages for me to pay back now whilst he sits on his !!!!!!. 😭😭😭😭😭

    That’s really rubbish!

Can he get a job in a supermarket or delivery driver or something he doesn’t need to get qualifications for? At least in the short term and maybe save up to do the test again?

Or they are always looking for people in care, my husband used to be a manager in a care service before he switched careers and they were constantly crying out for staff.
