He is just going to have to do what everyone else does and gets any job, sorting the career around that.

I'm so sorry to hear you are having problems getting OH a test.  Maybe contact another company and explain that you have been let down so much and really you only need the test and cant afford anything else.  Did the company give you a reason why they cant rebook the test for you, because surely it looks good if he passes with them rather than leaving it as an unsuccessful result?  The others are right in OH really needs to find temporary work to bring in some money while he waits for the new test / extra lessons.  He needs to be earning a wage to help pay for his test.  Try to find some time for yourself this weekend to forget about everything - I know its really hard

  • Sending love @FtbDreaming, that’s so much to deal with. I hope your health issues are easily resolved - that’s good you were able to get reassurance from a doctor at work.

As for the debt, it’s understandable given everything you’ve got going on. Just take baby steps. I don’t know that I would use that £500 to clear debt, I’d probably consider it an emergency fund. Using all your savings to clear debt can leave you a bit vulnerable if an emergency strikes.

Does your OH have any ideas about work if he’s failed his test again?

  • Thanks for the well wishes @Bluegreen143 i just want the MRI done so I can rest my mind. I rang up and they said the waiting list is about 6 weeks. I was considering paying for a private one but at £350 it probably won’t change much. I am really conscious of a lump I have just above the problem kidney. I self diagnosed it as a hernia about a year ago but now I can’t switch off that it’s something sinister. I have never been physically examined by a dr so they don't even know about the lump/ hernia.

Yeah he’s looking for work but no luck yet. Need something that works with my work and kids school too 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yeah you’re probably right. I have £630 in help to save and the £500 in natwest so both are considered emergency fund but I don’t plan on using either if I can help it. I’d rather sell one of the cars first if I was desperate for money as that would reduce the monthly outgoings too. Xxx

  • I think £1,000 is a good amount for a baby emergency fund so maybe keep that much and anything over put towards the debt?

Got everything crossed the lump really is a hernia. Worth seeing a doctor about it?

I'm sorry to hear you are having a tough time.  Why is it things all seem to come at once, just as we are thinking things are starting to go well.
Like others I would keep the savings and premium bonds are worth a try as you can withdraw them fairly quickly I believe (best check first though), plus you might win a little extra. I've never won but mum wins almost every month.  It's also out of the way and not showing on bank balances so you kind of forget its there so wont be tempted to dip into it.
I hope scan happens quickly and shows that lump is nothing to worry about.

  • Keep ringing the person who books the MRIs and let them know you'll take a cancellation.

Don't move your money to PBs, it's rare to win with such a low amount and it will be quicker to access in your normal accounts.

When you get the contract / hours for the new job, OH can get a role round that. It doesn't matter whether he's cleaning, being a bin man, filing, call centre etc, anything to bring in money.

  • Sorry to hear times are tough, as ever sounds like you are doing brilliantly well at managing everything.

I would say that whilst your chances of winning on PBs isn't high with a lower amount of money in them, the money is really easy to access. I had to cash in some of my PBs (its where my EF sits) and the cash was back in my account within 3 days.
