  • As your children are now getting older (how old is your youngest?) would there not be more flexibility for DH to just take a full time job and the kids get a key to let themselves in after school?

Hi sorry for the silence… there’s not been a lot to say.

I’ve kept my signature updated- I am not where I would have like to be yet but putting a positive spin on it I am 15 months ahead on my payments and have saved £1946.95 on interest 😋

Yesterday I got my job offer. There seems to be an error in the paperwork. She’s told me verbally that it’s a 12 month position but likely to go permanent as long as I prove myself worthwhile, the contract says permanent now. I don’t know whether to say something or not really. I don’t want to slow the process down any more. I currently earn around £19k part time and I’ll be going to £32k full time so hopefully feel some financial benefit and be able to pay off my debts and have a bit more to overpay and live more.

My kitchen/ house debt is going down nicely I’m at £8.5k now.. it was £11.5k in September. I think once that’s gone I will be much happier.

Still no HGV test. I’ve given up on dwelling on it. He will keep trying until he passes as it will be worth it when he has a well paid job. Having a minimum wage job isn’t really worth the hassle as we’d lose tax credits and have to pay childcare as well as the stress of organising it so we’ll just hold out for now. My younger 2 are 8 & 10 @Bluegreen143 so still need picking up from school and supervision and we don’t have any family to help, after school club 5 days a week doesn’t really sit well with our parenting style (plus that would be £100 a week too) I couldn’t have my kids in school 8-6 every day the guilt would kill me.

Health wise- I chased up the MRI yesterday as they said 6 weeks and we’re on 5. Apparently my scan was on 24th February but nobody told me. They said I was just in the grace period so have booked me in for 20th March. I went to get a tooth extracted on Monday and the dentist failed. She has butchered my mouth and I’m in constant pain. I called the specialist dentist she’s referred me to and the wait is a couple of months 🤯 nothing ever goes well for me.

Erm other than that I’m just needing to earn money so I can get back on track. OP aren’t happening until the books are balanced but I’m getting there.

The cost of living also going up is quite stressful right now. I’m just counting on my increased income and DP having an income then we’ll hopefully still be better off. I suppose that’s one of the benefits of having lived on peanuts for years I am able to live on peanuts again and won’t feel too hard done by 🤦🏼‍♀️ Xxx

Ah yes @FtbDreaming I’d thought they were a little older! Yes I wouldn’t be keen on that either so can totally understand your viewpoint - atm I finish at 3 everyday because I don’t like the idea of them being in school/nursery all afternoon either (obviously different things work for different families and understand others want or need to work FT! Just at the moment I prefer not to).

I suppose one thing is to consider this a bit of a survival period and as your OH gets back into work and your kids eventually reach secondary school you’ll find you’re in a better financial position.

New job sounds like a lot more money which should really help!

Yeah every family is different so I don’t judge anyone else for their work/ life balance we’re all just doing what we can to survive!

Yes this is definitely more of a long term transition to us having full flexibility. I know how fast these next couple of years go. DD1 is 13 and like a little woman so we’re kind of setting up for the future whilst appreciating the present. Xx

Hello! Just a quick update between my night shifts. I have requested my start date as 30th May for the new job! I am so nervous and excited! And it means only one more 4 week rotation on nights 💃🏼

I had my MRI on Sunday and am having a reaction to contrast. I am beetroot and itching all over with raised blotches and mouth ulcers. I had to go to tesco and spend £18 on various antihistamine and food. I hate tesco it’s so expensive but I’m too tired to drive the extra 3 minutes to home bargain.

Erm still paying everything down. Will update more when I have more time x

Thanks! If you read this thread from start to finish it’s a bit of a comedy of errors isn’t it 😂 every post I tried something and it went tits up!

Today I paid £19 interest on the overdraft 🤯 I’m reducing it by about £100 a week but £19 for £500 is a lot so I have made a rash decision and transferred my savings account/ half my emergency fund to it- that was earning about 60p interest a month so it makes sense to just pay off the overdraft- it makes me feel mentally better not owing the money and also saves me £18 in interest. I’m now £45 in credit and still have £680 in help to save as emergency fund.

Is anybody else dreading April? It feels like everything’s going up unattainably I think water is going up by about £10 a month. Internet has gone up by £3 council tax by £10 diesel is just ridiculously going up. What difference is a 5p cut to anybody? It’s gone up by about 50p+ in past few weeks.

I handed in my notice this morning. Everybody is really happy for me and nice which is good. It’s a much better opportunity than a Band 6 in a&e. I just couldn’t cope with that stress, conflict and lack of support.

Hope you’re all well and I’m gonna check your diary now @slm6002 to see if that builder has finished the bedroom yet xxx

I think we just have that kind of luck lol.  I also think paying off the overdraft was a good idea as if it wasn't offering much in interest and the overdraft was costing much more it makes perfect sense.

    As for the builder....no lol

Hi! I’m here with good news! I got the all clear from the MRI scan 🥳 it was confirmed as an angiomyolipoma so a lump of fat on my kidney and nothing to worry about! It’s such a weight lifted off my head now I feel like I can crack on with life!

Oh is in wales tonight for the night as he has his HGV test in the morning (third time lucky 🍀 🤞🏼) Was cheaper for him to stay in a hostel than drive back tonight then back again in the morning. He’s having a lovely night walking around the castle been for tea in a pub and going to a light up the sky display tonight so I am very jealous (but conscious that this is going in the bank for me to be owed a night away alone 😂)

I worked a bank shift yesterday which was horrific so I am not doing the shift I’ve booked for Friday. No amount of money is worth that stress and I’m just so happy there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

I really hope he passes tomorrow then I can look forward financially. My tax credits have gone down to £30 a week because of all the bank shifts I’ve done. I’ll just have to keep earning money as everything has gone up.

I am still aiming for mortgage free but slightly off piste at the minute. Hopefully will be back on it soon though x
