Wow it sounds exciting.  Your house wont need much more doing once kitchen and bathroom have been done so 2022 should be quiet :)

Haha yeah the rest of the house just needs a lick of paint so no big spends after these are done.

My main aim is to smash the mortgage. It’s my key to independence and once the kids are bigger I just want to travel and live well with the minimum outgoings as possible but to always have a home to go to! Reap the rewards of having my kids so young lol! And make up for lost time! X

At least it will be done and one less thing on your list.
Good luck with your permanent role!
I honestly don't blame you for wanting to clear the mortgage, with that gone so many options are available.

Thanks! I am a planner and doer! I feel a bit lost if I don’t have much going on lol.

Thankyou @MovingForwards I am looking forward to it although I’m a nervous Nancy I just need to push myself through it. I’ll hopefully get to work resus more and learn to triage.. they’re my goals anyway! So exciting 😊

I’ve got a loose career path in my head. I’m 33 now. Want to be band 6 by 35, band 7 at 40 and retire or semi retire at 50... I think 24 years in the NHS will be plenty for my little body lol!

I am very fortunate to live in such a low cost area that I can pay down the mortgage reasonably easily so I’m gonna try my best to make the most of the opportunity! Xxx

We are quite similar. I deliberately purchased a cheap home as I didn't want a huge mortgage and be stuck having to earn the money needed to service it. I only borrowed 3.3x my income, this year I've doubled my overpayments and from this month I'm adding extra on top of that. I've grabbed a temporary opportunity of extra money for a while and I'm on schedule to only clear the mortgage in 9 years time, then I can work PT and have a true work / life balance.

Oh fabulous @MovingForwards thats great that you’re onto paying down the mortgage now because you was saving the emergency fund first wasn't you! Mine is halfway there now and will hit £1000 by xmas. Both the accounts all that my EF goes into will lose the benefits if I withdraw so it’ll probably stay untouched as long as possible and increase by £1000 a year with no effort whatsoever. Xxx

Originally I was just rounding it up, then up a bit higher, then to £100 while playing catch-up for the months I didn't pay that much. Got my mortgage statement and decided to pay £200 extra, had a temporary change of finance and I'm paying £300pm from this month, and a one off lump-sum, until my wages go back down to normal.

I'm still saving my EF, saving for various other things and aim for £5k a year but am happy if I get about £4k saved.  Also pay into a SIPP.

I left my diary in this section after a few posts and reverted back to my saving one as it felt the right place for me.

A lot really does change in a year!

Fabulous! It sounds like you’re making great progress in all directions. Life changes so much all the time... that’s why my plans are always ‘loose’ lol as I never really know what’s around the corner x
