Returning unsatisfactory PC to AO.com

I bought a Gaming PC from AO last week. It was delivered on the 6/8 all good. When I got the PC out and turned it on, it seemed fine for 10 minutes, the problems started. Noisy fan, slow (not good for a gaming pc) and froze for a few seconds. The fan worried me the most as it was noisy even when the computer was idle and it kept speeding up every few seconds like it was getting a power surge. Needless to say, it was back in the box packed up about 3 hours after I first turned it on.

I've been onto AO who will only offer a partial refund because its "used" (How are you supposed to confirm if it works properly without turning it on?) or I speak to the manufacturer.

So I sent the CEO John Roberts an email outling my right to reject it. Now I have someone due to call me to resolve this issue.

What do I say to get refunded? I've not been happy with this pc from day 0 and it's not fit for purpose. It's sat returned to factory settings, in the box and packed up as it arrived since the 6/8. I bought this thing on credit and I'm going to have to start making payments on something I dont want.

Have you got a link to the PC ?
The fan speeding up every now and again is to be expected and could be tweaked with a fan/cooling profile
Noisy is quite subjective - what are you comparing it to
The freezing up will probably be all the updates it's configuring
  • Sorry, cant post the link, but

Although it could be argued that a Gaming-spec PC should be able to handle updates transparently to the user. Not whilst playing games, obviously, but in general use (e.g. browsing) ... which is what I expect the OP is talking about; I don't think they've loaded their games library onto it yet.
  • My old 5 year old PC isnt any where near as loud nor does it freeze nor did it when it was first used. Researching the fan noise suggests it could be coil whine.

I hadnt loaded anything onto the PC after the start up process was finished. It wasnt long after the start up, the fan noise started and the freezing started.

The fast fan and slowness suggests overheating. What were the temps?
Coil whine usually comes from the GFX card (you don't have one) or the PSU  so it could be that.

Thank you! It's clearly not a Gaming PC.

I've spoken to someone at AO and they want to talk to the manufacturer. When he calls back I'm going to push that it's not what they say it is. Aside from the faults.

I agree. AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 is a poor (integrated) graphics chip. The fact that there's no dedicated (separate) GPU means that is not in any way a Gaming PC. I think you could do them for false advertising / misrepresentation. (Although they don't hide the fact that it is an integrated GPU, once you look at the specs).

My laptop with a 9th gen i5 CPU and a GTX-1650 (4GB dedicated RAM) GPU is way better than that machine.
