  • Hi Guys - Response from Safetynet today offering to write off my current balance (around £1400) as a "gesture of goodwill"
My wages are now paid into a shiny new bank account so no-one can touch them. I've worked out I paid circa 3k in fees to Safetynet. Do you think I should go to the FOS or just accept their offer?
I'm tempted to refer to FOS but don't want to end up where they dismiss and Safetynet then decide I owe the full balance... HELP!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

Hi Mrspass, You can inform the FOS after 8 weeks, keep e-mailing the PDL for a Final Response, if no success then escalate to the FOS.

I would say that seeing as they have offered to write-off such a large balance they must know that they have done wrong, and as such, if you were to take them to the FOS you'd probably be successful. However if you are happy with the debt being written off, the issue is resolved today and you'd save yourself a lot of stress worrying about the outcome for the few months it sits with the FOS.

Personally I've taken all partial offers to be an admission of guilt and have taken them to the FOS, however its got to be your call.

I agree with Ginger.Ice, it is up to you really, better than Nothing though.
  • Thanks for your help guys - I think I'll refer to the FOS - Especially as the only reason I ended up with Safetynet is that I'd got in such a mess even some of the other payday lenders wouldn't lend to me.

Getting there slowly - 3 payouts so far, another 2 with balances written off and one currently with the FOS. Awaiting responses from another couple.

Feel rather ashamed that it got this far but I'm now out of the borrowing cycle completely and am slowly cleaning up my credit record.

Hi I've had a response from money shop today saying that as my last loan was over 6 years ago they won't be sending me a statement of account. What next? Shall I complain anyway or can I get this info some other way? Thanks

8 weeks up for Wonga and no response so have given them a chaser, I'm assuming they'll ask for another 4 weeks, not sure if I should just head straight to FO or give them a chance.

I have emailed for an update, and will call them today.

I spoke to Wonga today and the lady basically said they are only dealing with cases through the Ombudsman now. I have therefore referred to the FO after only 2 weeks.

    Thanks Delete33

I have emailed them again and received the following response:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

Unfortunately we are not prepared to arrange a refund in addition to clearing your credit file and writing off your existing debt.

We are sorry we were unable to reach an agreement and resolve your complaint. We have now placed your account on hold for 30 days to allow you sufficient time to see if you could reopen the case with the FOS.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should there be any further information you require.

I think as they are willing to write off the loan and remove the default they know they are in the wrong so I am going to take it to the FOS now - fingers crossed :)
  • Received an email from Stepchange to say that Payday Express balance is zero and asked if it's al clear with them. I was shocked and logged onto my Stepchange account (payday express have blocked my account with them so I cannot log onto that one) and the balance has been updated to zero and note on to say they are sending £5 back to Stepchange for an overpayment. I've not had any correspondence from them!! Has this happened to anyone?

QQ, I keep getting an email back from QQ saying Mackenzie hall have your information, I keep replying saying yes for the last loan only, not the previous 20-30 I had with you before that one went rogue, they just keep insisting I contact Mackenzie Hall, is it even worth persuing them or shall I just go straight to FOS? thanks.

I'm still waiting on resonses from Wonga, poundstillpayday... although Myjar said it will look into my accounts ang get back to me if it feels I was treated unfairly etc etc... all I did was ask them for a statement of accounts I never even suggested making a claim....

Try logging into your old account as they don't seem to close them. My default was in 2010 and my history of all the loans are still there. Good luck :)
