Of course he should, but he doesn’t want to take any responsibilitykirtondm said:Am I the only one who has a vague idea of what I am spending as I go round? If the bill is £5-£10 more than I expect then I will check the receipt. Surely that is common sense? If I couldn't do that and rely on checking the receipt why wait till I go home?
I believe the OP should have mitigated loses by checking the receipt at the time or failing that to speak to tesco the next time they were in town.0 -

But as it appears that you only want thoughts that agree with you, why bother asking?3guesses said:Any thoughts?0 -
How has this gone on for nine pages?
OP you have been given advice that you can either use or ignore but it's not going to change.0 -
Possibly because it's wet and miserable out and sometimes, these threads can be more entertaining than the television.Spank said:How has this gone on for nine pages?1 -
I guess Tesco's millions of other customers must just have been really lucky to have avoided this glitch/fraud.1

No - they just looked at the screen when they were scanning - and spotted any mistakes at the time of purchase - corrected immediately without the need to come back to the store, rant at a manager, get cctv, go home and make a 9 page thread on an internet forum.davidmcn said:I guess Tesco's millions of other customers must just have been really lucky to have avoided this glitch/fraud.2 -
Simples. The OP cannot multi quote - if he/she could it would be a short version of the same rubbish.Spank said:How has this gone on for nine pages?

Bring back Tony, at least that was entertaining.0 -

Hi @3guesses,3guesses said:Hi all,
I recently did some shopping at my local Tesco and used the self-service checkout to pay for my goods. However, when I arrived home and went through the receipt I discovered I had been charged for some items which I hadn't bought:- I was charged for 4 packets of chicken fillets when I only bought 3
- I was charged for 2 packets of burgers when I only bought 1
I therefore returned to Tesco. The "manager" refunded me the cost of the items for which I had been charged but not bought, but refused to compensate me for the inconvenience of having to return to the store without having first checked the CCTV footage. On returning home again I subsequently discovered that I had actually also been charged for 2 ready meals when I had only bought 1, so in total that's 3 items I was charged for that I didn't buy. I spent several weeks trying to get the manager at the store to contact me about compensation for the inconvenience, but they never did. I have, however, obtained the CCTV footage of the transaction so I can prove that I only bought 3 packets of chicken fillets/1 packet of burgers/1 ready meal.
How is it even possible for a self-service checkout to charge for goods that you haven't purchased? In my experience, they don't let you put items in the bagging area until you have scanned them, so how can it include "scanned" items that aren't then put in the bagging area? God knows how many other people this has happened to who are just unaware that they have been charged for items that they haven't bought. Given the fact that Tesco's self-service checkouts can do this, I fail to see how they are fit for purpose, and it seems to me to be a prima facie case of fraud by Tesco for their self-service checkouts to be able to arbitrarily charge customers for items they have not bought.
Any thoughts?
I can help you with this.
1. There is no fraud. It is an error. Either by you or in the self service till itself. Who knows or cares frankly.
2. You have received your money back from this error.
3. You don’t get compensation for inconvenience.
4. You need to calm down a bit.
Thanks.1
