Tesco Self-Service Checkout Fraud

And how exactly have *I* *EVIDENTLY* mis-scanned the goods? How exactly is it possible for you to categorically rule out a fault on the part of Tesco?Aylesbury_Duck said:Fraud? No. You should be more attentive when using self-service checkouts. You can see on screen what you're being charged for, leaving it until getting home seems a bit silly. As for compensation, for what? You've evidently mis-scanned goods so any time wasted is a consequence of that.
Unbelievable.0 -
Fraud by negligence. They charged me for items that I hadn't bought. They have a duty to ensure that their technology cannot do so.davidmcn said:"Fraud"? I very much doubt that Tesco have deliberately set up their tills to overcharge everyone and hope that nobody notices.0 -
Yes. I'm not entirely sure how you scan something incorrectly?theonlywayisup said:Self service = self scan. Did you operate the scan correctly, does your acquired CCTV show this?0 -
How exactly can you be "careless" when scanning items??? I was buying 23 items, so I was concentrating on ensuring I could get them all to fit/balance in the fairly limited bagging area. Is the legal onus REALLY on the customer to ensure that they have not been charged for items they have not purchased? Or is the legal onus on the retailer to ensure they don't charge customers for items they haven't purchased? I think you'll find it's the latter.stragglebod said:I think you were careless when you were scanning the items, just as you were careless when you didn't check the list of items before confirming payment, just as you were careless when you didn't check your receipt properly and missed the third duplicated item when complaining about the first two.Why should Tesco compensate you for your wasted time, when in fact it's their managers time that has been wasted?0 -
Precisely. How has this been allowed to happen???soolin said:If the OP hadn’t been a regular I would be wondering about this. As above this seems a very odd things especially when weight is checked and hundreds of thousands of people use these checkouts every day without the sensational papers not carrying multiple stories about shops defrauding us.0 -
GDPR?bradders1983 said:Why are Tesco giving CCTV footage out to customers? That doesn't ring true either 🤔🤔0 -
I'm afraid I'm too busy to spend a great deal of time on the site - I tend only to come here when I need to do so.shaun_from_Africa said:
That's assuming that the account isn't being accessed by someone other that the person who originally started the account.soolin said:If the OP hadn’t been a regular I would be wondering about this.
Before today, their account had been dormant for almost 4 years so this is a possibility.
I agree with the comments about the scanned weight. I sometimes pick up a newspaper at the weekend and when scanning it, there will be a discrepancy detected if the weekend supplement is heavier than expected or if I have chosen a paper that has this supplement missing.0 -
Finally! An answer that makes some sense! Yes, that never occurred to me. And that therefore brings me back to my point about negligence...Forwandert said:One possibility (Not sure if Tesco have the same settings on their self scans) the bagging area/scales can be turned off on some of the self scans so the tills can be used as normal tills. They may have been adjusted to that setting which would mean you can scan as many items as you want without triggering the scales.0 -
Oops.bradders1983 said:
In which case it only confirms the OPs carelessness, if you believe the story at all of course. I dont believe for a second that a major supermarket dishes out videos of CCTV to customers willy-nilly.Forwandert said:One possibility (Not sure if Tesco have the same settings on their self scans) the bagging area/scales can be turned off on some of the self scans so the tills can be used as normal tills. I'm guessing your name is Karen...3guesses said:
I therefore returned to Tesco. The "manager" refunded me the cost of the items for which I had been charged but not bought, but refused to compensate me for the inconvenience of having to return to the store without having first checked the CCTV footage.
