Unfortunately had mine declined today after 28 working days (FTB, 83% LTV) due to being in overdraft during one of the bank statements I provided. Has anyone had any experience with appealing a decision? I could not really find anything about the process online.

I have had a pay rise since my application and I was in only in an arranged overdraft (interest free) to pay off final debt from a Masters I completed 2 years ago, so I am hoping they might re-consider on appeal.
    Hi  sorry to hear this.
Nationwide also declined our mortgage back in August after a 5 week wait. The reason was becsuse I used my overdraft during lockdown but it had been paid in full before we applied.
We were absolutely gutted and ended up having to withdraw from our purchase. 😭
    Hi,
May I ask, was this a hefty amount? How long did you use it for?
I only ask because I submitted my docs recently but in July I accidently slipped into my overdraft in one of my accounts I never use. (I have 99 percent of my money in TSB but 1 percent in Halifax) and for about a day I was overdraft until I realised and put cash in. Hoping this doesn't hurt us...
  • Hello, new here so just wanted to get some info on Nationwide Mortgages/any people with similar experience.
We only needed to provide Nationwide with 2 documents for our full application- Gifted Deposit Form and my partners latest payslip. I can see that other people had to provide bank statements, pay slips, ID docs etc. Is this because we provided these docs to our solicitor instead who is on the lending panel for Nationwide so will they get the docs from them?
Have read above that people have been declined for being in their overdraft- my partner was in his for a couple of months (out of it now) but as I didn't provide bank statements to Nationwide how will they know? (unless from the solicitor or credit check I suppose?) .
Just want to brace myself in case it gets declined   :#

    @Carmenxox I'm still waiting from 10th August 🤷‍♀️
That's so awful! Are you going through a broker or direct?
A broker. It seems every time they ask for something, it takes them a fortnight to look at it and then they ask for something else and the loop continues. I was hoping to hear today as it was apparently escalated on Wednesday but nothing 🙈 I'm on working day 33.

We’ve applied with NW through a broker, my partner had an arranged overdraft which he was in each month but it’s all been paid off and our broker seems to think it won’t be a problem!
Was your overdraft an authorised one? How much was your limit if you don’t mind me asking?
Hi! We were rejected for previous overdraft usage even though it was paid off when we applied they could see it in the three months of bank statements. The limit was 2000 interest free arranged student overdraft, we weren’t even at limit when we went in, and as I say it was paid off!

Sorry for all the questions, but how long before your full application went in did you pay the overdraft off?
On the three months bank statements did it show the overdraft as still active/not cancelled?
  • @CharFTB me either! Its brutal.

We are working day 24 so still a couple of weeks behind you. Finally had our valuation done on Wednesday but heard nothing since, did you get texts from nationwide to confirm the results of the valuation?
Many thanks and hope you hear soon!

My valuation was the 11th August, got a text confirming the valuation was received and would be reviewed on the 17th August, and then another one literally a minute after that saying the valuation had been accepted. Ive had no more texts since, but they keep asking for documents, and it takes them two weeks to look at them every time 🙄

Our valuation was done on 25 August. Had a text to confirm it had happened but nothing else. Offer issued on Monday for the full amount so assume the valuation was okay. Seems that the texts are a bit random.
