  • Hi is anyone having trouble with the Government green deal offer? We live down south and we qualify for the £10,000 vouchers for the loft insulation, double glazing and new boiler. But there are no local glaziers who want to join the scheme.

Called Simply Energy phone line as wanted to correct an error on quote - told I would have to contact them via email. Did that - received reply stating any changes could only be made on  November 30th - when applications would be viewable online.
does not seem anything is going to happen until then - this would only give 4 months for them to organise a voucher and  to complete the work !!  - I don’t hold out much hope - this scheme seems to be just another publicity stunt  !!
  • Hi, i spent yesterday researching an application for an air source heat pump under the green home voucher offer and may be able to save you the effort,  the gov site suggests £3k to be paid on top the voucher for £5k but it's more like 10 or 15k on top!

the gov website leaves the reader with the impression that the cost of installing an air source heatpump is about £8K, this leaves the reader feeling that £5k of this will be via voucher and £3k paid by me...  i approached a couple of companies and it became clear very quickly that the cost of the heatpump is £8k but the complete price for install (which includes a new hot water cylinder that is compatible with the lower temp of the water produced by the heatpump) cost on average £15k.

This means that if you want to install this you have to pay £10k and the voucher provides £5k.  you may be able to recoup your £10k over the next 7 years using the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme ( RHI)  but the value of the voucher will be deducted from your RHI entitlement.
One of the companies i spoke to was really helpful, they were really clear with me that if replacing an existing condensing boiler the running cost would not be significantly cheaper, so the only way to recoup the money is via RHI which the Green voucher will eat into.  They are also receiving a lot of enquiries on this from customers with the same misconception.
so rather disappointing day as i could afford the £3k but £10 is out of my reach.
hopefully, this saves you some time.

  • Is there a place to name and shame to people who are taking advantage and charging extortionate rates?
When everyone is struggling because of COVID19, is this what the UK public has come too.

Hi Ryan you mentioned you qualify for a new boiler?
I thought a new boiler is not included in this scheme, please can someone clarify as we do need to change ours I think it's about 20 years old from Googling the model number.

    Which Improvements Are Not Eligible?

Gas boilers are a notable omission from the list of home improvements covered by the scheme.

Just wasted about an hour of my life filling in the forms. I assumed you filled in the forms, got  the vouchers and found a firm to do the work.  Nooooo.  It’s telling me to provide quote details now. I give up.
  • Of the two companies that are listed as doing Flat Roof Insulation in my area, only one is participating.  The other was very helpful although they said I HAD to get 3 quotes (I think 3 is only recommended not compulsory), but there is only one company available.....
  • We're about to move into a place with a great big F next to eco. Self wiring fuses, induction heat tank thing, little to no insulation etc. Where do we even start?
Also, my parents are having issues, based on the Isle of Wight their nearest businesses that comply are in Fareham.
