Everybody I know who has  had one has learnt why Land Rover are bottom of reliability tables.

What I can't understand is they have been bottom for years, its no secret, but people still buy them.

The chances are most used ones are diesels which may not suit her driving pattern so should be avoided if not.  Petrol models will like a drink, but not an issue if she is a low mileage user and can accept less than 30mpg.

If she wants a capable SUV there are far better ones out there for far less money and they will be very reliable.

If she is glassy eyed because its an Evoque nothing you suggest will change her mind so you may as well let her get one with it.
Not any more, JD Power now state Tesla at the bottom.

My husband spent his £18K inheritance from his mother on a Morgan +4/4 seater,  back in 1985..... well, actually 1996 before we got to the top of the waiting list.  It's now worth about £25K and has given us 25 years of 'fun' and taken both our children to their weddings.  I'm not sure that a Range Rover would have delivered the same - but it's horses for courses I guess.

What's the reasoning for wanting one ?
She could invest it and save it for a rainy day, are you expecting any future plans ?

I believe the saying is "the plural of anecdote is not data".
The point behind What car etc ratings isn't just whether the car breaks down more than others.  The scores are weighted according to how much it will cost.  LR costs tend to be very high.

£400 for one tyre is obscene
Why would anyone want running costs like that no matter how well off you are?
Because not everyone is the same as you.

I enjoy driving, I like Range Rovers, I like having an extremely comfortable, powerful, capable car, and I can afford it.  Any car will depreciate and cost money to maintain - £400 was a lot for a tyre, but it was for a car I love to own and love to be in rather than a purely functional family saloon that I resent for needing some new spark plugs.

£1600 for all four corners...think about it.
Actually, it was a lot less if buying four at once.  And to be clear, my point was to defend Range Rovers, not tyre manufacturers.  One should be aware of the potential costs, but the (in my experience) unfounded comments about Range Rover reliability are not a reason to not buy a Range Rover.
I suggested to my wife not to get the X5 she used to have.  Why? Because of the cost and ride quality of the runflat tyres.  If decent tyres for a car are considerably more expensive than for others, then it counts against the car on the basis of being value for money.

Its a joke. They see you coming, due in most part, to the big windows. Harry Enfield did a relatable sketch but it was antiquities rather than tyres he was flogging. Amusing either way.
