Partner Gifted Money - Wants to Spend it on a Range Rover Evoque

Over 11 years I have owned three Evoques, a Velar and currently have a Range Rover Sport. I haven't had any issues at all. Not one. Yes, servicing, road fund licence and insurance is more expensive than a smaller car, but you get what you pay for. I guess parts are more expensive, too, but I've never needed to buy any.
The only unexpected cost I had was recently - a nail in my tyre. That cost me over £400. For one tyre.
The only "fault" I had was a warning light (can't remember what it said). I called my dealer and within the hour a Land Rover mobile technician appeared at my house, ran some checks and said it was nothing. That's what I'd call service.
All makes/models break down, have defects, have recalls. I hear all the time that LR are really bad (just look at this thread - loads of negative comments, but how many have actually owned one?), but all I can say is that I've never experienced it myself. I'd recommend Range Rover any day.
I think the best suggestion is for the Op's partner to lease/pcp for the few years, win win , they have the car and get it out of their system and have the back up of warranty, they would have suffered depreciation anyway.1 -
£400 for one tyre is obsceneWhy would anyone want running costs like that no matter how well off you are?0

I enjoy driving, I like Range Rovers, I like having an extremely comfortable, powerful, capable car, and I can afford it. Any car will depreciate and cost money to maintain - £400 was a lot for a tyre, but it was for a car I love to own and love to be in rather than a purely functional family saloon that I resent for needing some new spark plugs.

These aren't really bangernomics cars, and even the £1600 for the full set every few years is nothing compared to the deprecation (which could easily surpass £400/month).0
