Well, this is all highly negative.

Over 11 years I have owned three Evoques, a Velar and currently have a Range Rover Sport.  I haven't had any issues at all.  Not one.  Yes, servicing, road fund licence and insurance is more expensive than a smaller car, but you get what you pay for.  I guess parts are more expensive, too, but I've never needed to buy any.

The only unexpected cost I had was recently - a nail in my tyre.  That cost me over £400.  For one tyre.

The only "fault" I had was a warning light (can't remember what it said).  I called my dealer and within the hour a Land Rover mobile technician appeared at my house, ran some checks and said it was nothing.  That's what I'd call service.

All makes/models break down, have defects, have recalls.  I hear all the time that LR are really bad (just look at this thread - loads of negative comments, but how many have actually owned one?), but all I can say is that I've never experienced it myself.  I'd recommend Range Rover any day.
Interesting, as I know my brother could have had a Velar for £300pm for 12 months .
I think the best suggestion is for the Op's partner to lease/pcp for the few years, win win , they have the car and get it out of their system and have the back up of warranty, they would have suffered depreciation anyway.

Why would anyone want running costs like that no matter how well off you are?

Because not everyone is the same as you.

I enjoy driving, I like Range Rovers, I like having an extremely comfortable, powerful, capable car, and I can afford it.  Any car will depreciate and cost money to maintain - £400 was a lot for a tyre, but it was for a car I love to own and love to be in rather than a purely functional family saloon that I resent for needing some new spark plugs.

£1600 for all four corners...think about it.

A family member has gifted my partner some money and she would like to purchase/put it towards a used Range Rover Evoque.
Whatever her budget for the Range Rover, cut in in half and save 50% for the repair bills.  Even then, that repair fund may need topping up.  In my opinion she is seeking the fastest way to blow her windfall and have little or nothing to show for it.

Owned one, used lots of LR products through work. I've had faults straight out the factory and on old ones. The most reliable ive used is a freelander 2 but the evoke doesn't seem to have inherited that somehow. Not had use of a velar, they do look nice. I'd have another propper range rover if they were reliable.

High quality performance tyres are expensive, £400 isn't bad for some. These aren't really bangernomics cars, and even the £1600 for the full set every few years is nothing compared to the deprecation (which could easily surpass £400/month).

Actually, it was a lot less if buying four at once.  And to be clear, my point was to defend Range Rovers, not tyre manufacturers.  One should be aware of the potential costs, but the (in my experience) unfounded comments about Range Rover reliability are not a reason to not buy a Range Rover.

One owners anecdote is not data.

But several non-owners are?  I've owned 5 Range Rovers.  It's all I've driven since 2009.  So I think my experiences should count for something.
