Interesting reading this. Our broker is putting in an application today with Santander for us. I am part self employed, part employed. But my income is a quarter of my husband's so hoping it is ok. Also we are going for approx 70% LTV. If we can't get the amount we need we will have to find a different property, but we are in a very small chain which I like.

I remember this wait being horrific last time, one of the reasons we haven't moved in 11years, and this next house will hopefully see us to retirement!

  • 9th July - full application. Full credit check done on same day
10th July - application and supporting docs accepted and sent to underwriter
21st July - request for additional documents
22nd July - documents sent and accepted and sent back to underwriter
24th July - valuation survey completed
27th July - request for more information. Information supplied and accepted and sent back to underwriter.

still waiting...........we are buying a newbuild to be completed in September. With HtB we are asking for 62% LTV. Im self employed but not affected by covid and my wife has two jobs. This the most stressful experience of my life

Similar position for me in terms of offer date and expiry date...since turns out the seller of my property needs to delay until mid December 🙄

do you need to extend the offer?

Thanks. We are waiting for a new build currently at 90% completion estimated to complete in September so hopefully it will work out for us.

Still no sign of valuation 8 days after being instructed for us. Not even contacted estate agent or Vendor. Are they still doing some as Desktop?

We submitted on the 1st July, offer subject to valuation on the 13th (after numerous questions coming back from the underwriters). The valuation was instructed on the 14th, we didn't hear anything until the end of the week (17th) and that was only because the housing association (we are buying shared ownership) chased it up for us by contacting Legal and General.

They advised it was panelled to CountryWide who told her it wasn't booked until the 28th, two weeks after instructed!!! I assume it's a backlog from covid, but very annoying. Also couldn't be done desktop as it's a new build. Thankfully we heard that they've issued our mortgage offer this morning, so the day after the valuation - however that's only because our MA chased it up and asked them if they could be quick because we had to wait 2 weeks for the valuation.

So anyone in a similar position - worth finding out who the valuation is with and contacting them yourself. And when it comes back ask your MA to ask if they can review to issue the offer quickly.

Anyone who’s received the hard copy of mortgage offer from Santander, has your solicitor received a solicitor copy from Santander too?

Do you or your solicitor have to request it from Santander? Or Santander should automatically send it out to the solicitor?

We now have an intermediary copy, an official hard copy to our post, but solicitor still hasn’t received anything.

I received my hard copy in the post today. It says in my letter that my solicitor has a copy too. We did provide the MA details of our solicitor at application stage, so I imagine that is how Santander got solicitor details. I'll check with solicitor on Monday to confirm they've got theirs, incase slight delay in post.
