Neon Reef - any views?

  • You can download all your data from smart meters either using the nrgy website or if with octopus you can download the csv file and with a bit of formatting can easily use all the readings for your calculations. It will be more complicated than now, but not too difficult.
  • It would be a good idea for Neon Reef to behave like a company that isn't about to go down the tubes if they want to keep any reputation intact. 
    I've had no reply to emails for over three weeks, and the most recent reviews on Trust Pilot tell a similar story.
    Has anyone seen any signs of life from this company recently?

    Hi.  I have had no replies from them.  I sent a 2nd one in captial letters (shouting) asking for a reply. It's just not on.  This is people's money.

    @ Flight: I've done a similar spreadsheet for my calcs, but it occurred to me yesterday that in the months and years to come, billing will be a whole lot more complicated to work out with the introduction of time-of-day tariffs. 
    I remember the old days when the first x units per month were charged at one rate, any in excess were charged at another. 
    How on earth are the comparison sites going to cope with the new style tariffs? 
    BEIS has already commissioned a price comparison tool that pulls the last 12 months usage data from your meter which includes usage broken down into 30 minute segments. The tool will then offer tariffs based on your usage profile. Commercial price comparison websites will no doubt build their own tools; however, to extract smart meter data they will either have to become DCC Users or partner with an organisation that is registered. Data extraction requires consumer approval.

    I sent them an email on Monday 13 Sep and did receive a reply yesterday, Fri 17 Sep
  • I started my switch to Neon 7 Sept, reviews weren't great but willing to take a punt for the 1 year fixed (moving from Green - only with them a year, no issues just going to be too expensive now).

    Just checked latest reviews & a lot more complaints than when I signed up. Bit worried as this is usually the start of the end for these these small suppliers. I know the smaller companies are riskier, but are they still even viable now? If owed money, I presume it's protected & you will eventually receive it?

    Hopefully Neon will be able to keep going through the winter but the portents for small (and not so small) utility suppliers don't look great in the current situation.  In the sad event that Neon do succumb and cease trading you will be transferred to a new supplier under the SOLR process (almost certainly at a much much higher tariff) and any credit balance that you have will eventually be repaid by that new supplier..but it can be a long and arduous process depending who gets selected as the new supplier.

As I had not received a final bill I emailed them on the 13th September saying with exact figures showing I was in credit, and also that I was due £30 as my final bill had not been produced within the required 6 week timeframe. On the 16th I had a reply saying that they had generated the bill and would pay me the credit owed to me in addition to the £30. I completed a direct debit mandate later that day. Will monitor the situation after the weekend.

    I asked for cheque option with £30 compensation and this has not come through.  On another account they haven't event billed me yet.  As I said, this is people's money and normally they replied to my emails within a couple of days.  They have stopped doing this and chat has been switched off.
  • I think Neon Reef only supply electric & not gas so that possibly might be a factor in whether they go bust or not - possibly less likely to go bust (?) as they have no exposure to the massive spike in gas prices (just the less massive spike in the electricity price)
