Notice in? Furlough or garden leave?
Comments

Pay in lieu of notice means they pay you for your notice period and then you're out the door - no gardening leave or having to work your notice, your employment is terminated.col81 said:What does that mean please? Thank you for help jeremy
This will only work if they're unaware of your reluctance to return to the office with the possibility of them not having to pay you a penny.0 -
Thanks folks0

Usually employers don't want sales people who are leaving to go to a competitor to do any work for the company while on notice, so they will often pay the employee for their notice period up front, and not make them stay as an employee until the notice period expires. In today's climate they may prefer to furlough you, as then the government will contribute to the cost of your notice. They may have to pay you your full pre-furlough wage. The rules are complicated. They will also have to pay for any accrued holiday entitlement.col81 said:What does that mean please? Thank you for help jeremy
Your contract of employment may have restrictive covenants in it, which may limit what you can do for a competitor for (usually) up to six months.0 -
Why would I not get furlough again if it happens in say 2 months time?? Surely I would0

If you are no longer furloughed you can refuse to be furloughed again anyway, so that solves the furlough wage issue.0

Your new company wouldn’t be able to furlough you as you don’t meet the RTI date for them. I guess you could go back and ask the employer that you’re about to leave if they’d rehire you solely to put you on furlough, but guess there’d be no chance of them being so accommodatingcol81 said:Why would I not get furlough again if it happens in say 2 months time?? So, you haven't actually got a new job to go to yet - this is just another one of your speculative threads. As furlough will start costing your employer in increasing amounts from 1st August it will become less attractive for them to maintain employees on the scheme. Are there actually likely to be car dealerships looking for new salesmen?col81 said:Why would I not get furlough again if it happens in say 2 months time?? Surely I would0 -
I have a job I can start whenever0

Not with your new employer you wouldn't be. 10th June was the final date in which an employer could furlough you, if you wasn't furloughed by that date.col81 said:Why would I not get furlough again if it happens in say 2 months time?? Surely I would

Then make the move for your future. You are clearly not happy where you are and the new challenge sounds like just what you need.0
