Skint_yet_Again said:Great start to healthy eating Ren and some good saving already. Never heard of tigers nuts 😳
I spotted them in a supermarket and hadn't heard of them either. To quote from the packet:
Tiger nuts are tiny root vegetables with a sweet flavour and chewy texture. High in fibre.
Not bad, rock hard when you put them in your mouth, soften a bit with chewing (you need good teeth!) and taste ok... just fancied some variety in the diet. They do say on the pack (red zone) high fat e.g. 21.8g/100g hence a tiny handful for my snack...."...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Not saying I can do that every day with lockdown, but, I will try....

Day 3 of healthier living:
Yesterday:
Porridge, soya milk & yogurt, ground seed sprinkles, mixed berries, plus fresh pear & cinnamon. Xtremely nice.
Sweet pot wedges, vegan pasty, baked beans.
Pot 2 (of 3) hummus, caramelised onion with carrot, celery & cucumber sticks.
Fluids: glasses of water x 3, ordinary tea x 1, herb tea x 1, small cocoa - soya milk and choc shot, erm, less healthy 2 large G&T's!
Activity: 35mins dog walking, quick dash to corner shop 15mins, zero bike. = 50m 'moderate'.
Money saving:
Cooked up a tray of veg for roasting, whilst baking the pasty and sweet pot wedges at lunch. So, saving energy/£, and creating 3 portions of food. Used the HB vegetarian recipe, which includes chickpeas. This will be used as:
Side dish with nut cutlet.
Bolognese - by adding tin of tom's with brown pasta.
Curry - by adding coconut milk & curry powder with brown rice.
2 in freezer, 1 in fridge for today.
Another survey, another top-up!
Plan to head to L*dl today: so checking stores, don't need much but I notice they will have sports equipment and I am going to see if I can get some e.g. resistance band set around £5? To actually start exercising - especially strength since I don't feel I have any.... A good distraction for my mental health/stress/worries too.
I have tried weighing myself these last 3 mornings. The first day showed a loss of 2.5lbs! I think this was because over the week-end I ate the last of the junk food, but then no more unhealthy snacks. Second day showed same. Third day today shows gain of half a pound. I notice yesterday a lot less activity, but, having wedges in a bit of oil 2 days running not helped. I also ate a lot of bread at the week-end, and haven't had as much this week (2 slices).... I can see this will easily become too obsessive, so, not sure I recommend this! I think I will go to once a week since there are already fluctuations....
Breakfast today:
Oat milk porridge, berries, seeds, blob of soya yogurt.
Lunch:
Roast veg with nut cutlet.
Tea:
Last pot of red pepper hummus with carrot, cucumber & pepper.
NB. For the mildly curious, I take a vegan supplement to make sure I get enough Vits, and I sprinkle B12 yeast on things like casseroles, stews, soups, curries, etc.
Laying off the G&T as I have a slight headache today! I don't think half a glass of gin is one measure.....! Hic..."...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

All looks good and well balanced.
Save the gin as a weekend treat.

Thanks Babs, maybe I ought to save it for special occasions over the year....."...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Day 4 of being healthier.
Breakfast: porridge, berries, yogurt and milk (soya and oat).
Lunch: Bolognese with brown pasta - had that yesterday too instead of nut cutlet. Not so healthy - white garlic baguette! Won't have any bread/baguette today.
Tea: Hummus I didn't eat yesterday because I was too full from lunch! With celery, carrot and cucumber sticks.
Worked out I did 2 hours of walking yesterday (to supermarket & back, round supermarket) & as it was cold I felt I must have burned off something.
Weight this morning: lost half a pound! Just shows how much effort it takes to shift my blubber......
Interesting though - not having sweet stuff or buying sweet stuff, I instantly craved carbs, so not quite solved the cravings....
Activity:
Housework, laundry, and putting the stuff I bought to use! I will see if the dog wants to venture out today. She 'tells' me when she has had enough by turning round to face home and not giving in to my gentle encouragement to walk more! Who is training who? Don't answer that.....I realise I don't count in housework as activity, I'm sure I read somewhere that it doesn't burn off any calories, that can't be right?
Money saving:
Amended signature, as I won't be adding (or hopefully extracting from the emergency fund), that's gone off the sig. As loan also sorted, that's gone too. Makes it simpler....
Updated survey total as I forgot yesterday. So, focus is now on household maintenance. I made a start with anti-mould paint purchase. I really should dig out my other product to get rid of the mould first, and tackle that, so I can sort out the bathroom and kitchen ceilings.
Money spent (or investing in my future self/health?):
I did buy resistance bands from L*dl yesterday. However, my splurge monster egged me on to get:
Eco-friendly exercise mat - £5.99
Large resistance band - £2.99
3 smaller bands - £2.99
4kg kettle bell - £4.99 (that crippled me to carry home!)
Activity leggings - £6.99
Sports top - £3.99
Running trousers £7.99
Activity hoodie £7.99
The first 4 were planned. the next 4 were impulse! Total = £43.92
On the positive side, I only spent £13.26 on food!"...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Erm, conveniently 'forgot' I did go back and buy something on-line, after cancelling the other more expensive thing.... doh! This ended up costing me £85.80 with delivery. Justification mode induced: This was something I have hankered after for 3 years, but, couldn't afford to cheer me up
.
That has got to be it, I am strapping the splurge monster to a chair, in a strait jacket, and he's not going to be allowed out whilst I am trying to get this place sorted... he may yell and whimper pathetically still though, when I am due to go to the shops, but, hopefully I will be too far away to hear it!"...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

You don’t need to justify your spending Ren, you are allowed to spend some of your own money on you! Have a pot for yourself too. I have £50 per month entertainment fund and that is being spent on takeaway at the moment as there are no lunches out with friends at the moment. Plus I have a clothes fund.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Minimum of 125 Cal's for 30 minutes of cleaning. Even breathing burns about 46 cals an hour. Think of the cals you used up carrying your goodies home 😁
Do you have an old smartphone now? If so, download the myf1tn3ss pal app and log your exercises, that will show you how much you burn up in a day, or have a quick look online at key things so you've an idea.
Definitely no justification needed. You've a bigger budget and can afford to do your home up, replace things and should rework your figures.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
Healthy eating and exercise is sounding great 🙂
I didn't realise that about the Tip so will definitely have a look if I am in that position... Thank you.
