Wow that is very simple and easy compared to some recipes I've seen! Thanks! Might add some single cream at some point to make it more luxurious...mmm...0

Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for that mulled wine/gluwein thing please? Whenever I try and make it it never seems quite right

Cheap bottle of red wine, generous dollop of clear honey, a few cinnamon sticks and cloves. Heat gently. You can add sliced oranges if you like.
JulesThe ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -

Very easy, and you can keep it going through the evening by just topping up. Mulled cider done the same way is very nice too.

bottle of goodish red wine
honey or sugar to taste
cloves,
cinnamon stick,
bay leaf,
grated nutmeg,
rind of lemon, (not the pithe - its bitter)
rind of orange, (as lemon)
cup of water,
slug of brandy
sliced orange
Heat gently until hot (do not boil), turn off, add the thinly sliced orange and let infuse for at least 30 minutes.
You can prepare in advance, store in the fridge and just reheat a glass in the microwave. (minus the sliced orange)
Also, poach some pears for about 30 mins in the above (minus the water) and you've a lovely pudding. (using only enough wine to just cover the pears).
(I'm doing some now!)

Allexie, there's a thread here in the forum about making your own booze for Christmas so I'll merge your query into that.0

skintchick wrote:On the subject of booze - what else can you have with gin other than tonic? I don't mind a bit of gin, but HATE tonic.
A popular drink in Menorca is Pomada which is gin, traditional lemonade (the cloudy kind) and lots of ice, very refreshing but seriously potent.
The menorcans seem to serve gin with anything and make some serious liquers using gin and herbs/rose essence (too sweet) /coffee ( my favourite) /chocolate/ mint and many more. So I think you could drink whatever you like with the gin.
Think I might go and experiment myself, purely for research purposes you understand! :snow_laug

Round about now I start making my "taste alike liquers".My favourite is a Baileys type one. It's really popular and a lot less expensive than the genuine article. Here's the recipe if anyone fancies making it.
Baileys
410g tin carnation milk
383g tin condensed milk
1 tsp glycerine
1.5 tsp very strong coffee paste
1 large mug of whisky
Pour the whole lot in a litre bottle, shake well and try not to drink it all before Xmas.
Anybody got any other liquer recipes?"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0 -
This sounds like a great idea (I love baileys and Lidl's Baileys-alike) but what is coffee paste?0
