It's something my friends in Finland do,
Take a bottle of cheap Vodka, give about a glass of it to someone unsuspecting (to make space in the bottle), then add strong liquorice sweets to taste(they can be pastilles, all sorts, it really doesn't matter). Close the bottle, shake well and stand for as long as you need (minimum two weeks). Shake again before serving. It makes an amazingly tasty "short" to help digestion (yeah yeah) after Christmas Dinners! And conks you out fast if you're not careful.
what is it with those finnish people and their liquorice? can't stand the stuff myself so i'll take your word on it (though from my old days of making herbal medicine i do know you're right that it aids digestion)
anyway, used to work with a handful of fins and they finally got me to eat some of their 'orrible salted liquorice... NASTY NASTY NASTY  _pale_
ok i feel better now after that...
course if you LIKE liquorice i bet it's really nice... go ahead make it, you can have my share cuz i'm nice like that :rotfl:founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -

Don't know if this would make you more or less common though. More so probably.

orange juice and chocolate liquer tastes like a Tootsie Roll which is an American classic candy, tastes just like it, honest!founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
arkonite_babe wrote:Wirm posted this recipe in the Arms a while ago, thought I'd share it in here as it's darn good ;D
Similar to the vodka / liquorish idea
1 1/2 Bottle vodka
2 Normal size bags or 1 family bag of skittles
Take approx 1 or 2 measure of vodka out of the bottle, pour in skittles, leave until all the colour has gone out of the skittles.
Serve cold from the fridge in shot glasses.
Yummy Yummy!
Hits you a bit if you overindulge though! ;D
kinda reminds of this drink i got in canada (toronto) once years ago. they called it a zombie. it actually came with a warning because people were surprised by the secret ingredient and some of them choked (nothing serious though)
they put willy wonka's 'runts' in them... i'm pretty sure you sell those here in the UK but they maybe called something else here. they are the little pebbly fruit flavoured sweets you get two flavours in a box that's split down the middle...
anyway, they're really nice, wish i knew what else went in the drink
word of warning though, do NOT drink them with a straw!founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
I love this thread! I started reading it and just had to get myself a Bailey's (well, an Aldi's £3.50 jobbie). Read further and had to put some milk in it - gorgeous. Even my fussy 6yo approves and keeps trying to pinch my glass!0

I tried this again the other night and put a wee bit too much vodka in. So I ended up drinking raw vodka! Not the nicest I must admit.0 -

TIA MARIA
8 fl oz Water
6 oz brown sugar
4 tsp powdered Coffee
8 fl oz light Rum
4 tsp Vanilla Extract
Boil water, sugar and coffee for 10 mins and let cool. Add rum and vanilla. Put insterelised bottle and leave for about a week before using.
youd get about 4 bottles tia maria out of the bottle of light rum
;D
Quick question - is light rum the white 'bicardi' stuff or is it similar the the brown 'navy rations' stuff? As you can see I don't know anything about rumEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -
I tried chilli vodka last year was really quite potent - expecially when you ate the chillies! Nearly killed some of OH workmates!it's not having what you want - it's wanting what you've got0

This year I'm experimenting with blackcurrant gin and blackberry gin. Haven't tried it yet- I think it should be ready about Christmas time so if I don't reappear after Christmas you will know that it went wrong somewhere0

This year I've done Sloe Gin - v. nice
Blackberry vodka - very sweet and syrupy
Raspberry brandy - a definate hit , I'm not sure if there will be any left for my hampers :rotfl:
I also plan to do the Baileys, and now I've found this thread I'm going to do the Licorice one for MIL, she loves the stuff. Makes me gag so there will definately be plenty left!
On the hampers thread someone suggested using toffees in Vodka so I might have a go at that as well.:snow_laug HM Christmas 2010
