I've just strained my blackberry vodka today - I used the cheapest vodka Lidl had to offer (and very nasty on it's own or with tomato juice it was too!). I used a spare litre bottle and put in 1 pound of blackberries, 1 pound of sugar and as much vodka as I could get in the bottle - unless anyone's been drinking the vodka & topping up with water, I only used half the 70cl bottle. Mother-in-law & I sampled it and agreed we should make the sacrifice of drinking it all ourselves to stop anyone else having to have any
. Tastes more like a liqueur than the flavoured vodka I've had as a shot in a pub though.
It made 2 and a half jam jars full, and as a bonus, I've a jar of macerated blackberries to turn into blackberry ice cream.0 -
Lemon vodka is much better. Simply squeezed lemon juice and sugar mixture, heated up to dissolve the latter, and added when cool to some bog standard vodka. You have to judge it to taste. Better left for a week or two before drinking.
It's a well known recipe in Poland and other Eastern European countries.0 -
Thanks for all the advice, I've been looking at the skittles one, I'm thinking of doing little bottles of that, I already have a jelly baby one on the go (I managed to salvage it whoo!) and I'll do a chocolate liqueur as well as a fruity alcohol of some kind, probably raspberry! I know this is probably way too late for most of you (unlike me!) but for future reference, in the hunt for bottles for my toffee vodka I found a Polish (?) Frugo juice drink which comes in 250ml glass bottles.

and according to HDUK (thanks to AdamC31415) it's on offer until 25/12 at 33p each.
I've not tried the juice yet, but may be ideal for bottling the home made booze (when I get around to it:))0
