I love sloe gin and am wondering what other flavours would be good. There are loads of elderberries in my back garden but i've never tasted elderberry gin - anyone tried it? What other berries could I forage to flavour gin with?0

Yesterday I made some raspberry vodka and some blackcurrant vodka. I suppose you could try raspberry gin.
Damson gin is similar to sloe gin. Never tried elderberry, might have a go at elderberry and bramble though."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -

Hi dandy-candy,
I've made peach, blackberry and raspberry gin. (separately, not together) I think most fruits will work well.

We made Elderberry gin in 2008 (due to a v tiny sloe harvest of 13 berries) - 1/3 bottle elderberries, 1/3 bottle sugar, top up with Gin...shake it to mix up and then shake every time you remember it's in the cupboard.
We actually forgot that we had made it so didn't strain it after 6 months as in most recipes.....
So, last month we found it, opened it, strained it, poured it over some ice and ice cold tonic water.......and......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Discovered that elderberry gin and tonic tastes just like fizzy ribena :beer:0 -
Do you think when making it I should use a decent gin like Gordons or is a supermarket own brand one acceptable?0

I'd do elderberries with vodka rather than gin as the berries have a lot of flavours going on already.
Elderberry wine tastes a bit like port (and historically elderberry wine was used to improve the flavour of inferior ports) so I imagine that a spirit flavoured with elderberries and sugar would have some of the same qualities.0 -
We have strawberry gin and raspberry gin on the go at the moment, hoping they come out ok!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0
