With one of the MS companies going over from a PAYE system to Independent Contractor status, it's hard to actually make a "paper profit" from the food jobs. The mileage allowance doesn't cover the 40p/mile or the 6p per page printed to do the work, especially if it's an "expenses only/no fee" job.

Unfortunately it's a situation where it will be hard to give a good enough reason to HMRC for doing these jobs, especially where it's obvious that they're a loss-making exercise from the outset. The fact that there's a "free" meal in it just doesn't cut it.

Needless to say, several of these types of job have been hanging around on the self-assign system for a long time now.

That's exactly the sort of point people made to TNS when they announced the changeover and invited comments, but they took no notice. I hope more and more people won't take these jobs and TNS might consider actually paying MS a decent fee (or indeed any fee!) for their work!

Tim, what I do in situations like this is just what you have done. But in the comments box at the end I make it clear that THE STAFF TOLD ME THAT THIS SITE HAD NO TOILET. HOWEVER, THE DESIGN OF YOUR QUESTIONNAIRE HAS MEANT I HAVE HAD TO COMPLETE THE FORM AS IF A TOILET WAS PRESENT. It's probably better, now I think of it, to put the worst possible ratings for the toilet, or whatever - because then the Gap staff are more likely to read the actual report!!! :rotfl:
I had this a couple of time and I just have to agree with the computer, after all it can't be wrong!! Well I am not going to battle half the night with it anyway, if it says no toilet, I just say please yourself!

I did a sandwich shop today and wasnt given a receipt and only realised when I got home doh doh and doh again. At the time the person behind the till threw the change in my hand and walked off so that kind of threw me.

Do you think I wont get paid as cannot produce a receipt ?
Just explain to them I am sure they'll understand. I have submited a receipt recently that was hardly worth posting. The ink was faded and it had no store name or what I purchased on, but it wasn't my fault.

I know that some of the petrol stations near me do have toilets, but the staff are only allowed to use them. When I have completed this site I still have to put they have a toilet otherwise "the computer says no " as someone has said in the past that they have used the toilet.

I'm often too late with Grass Roots. By the time I got the email and logged in the jobs have usually been picked up. But the ones I don't want anyway are usually still there. :rotfl:

It does pay thought to log in every now and then to check ... I have picked up some jobs long before the email came through. ;)
and the worse thing is you can view the list of jobs you missed.

On a more hopeful note how do you get to do petrol audits for Gap? Are they harder than MSing and do you still get to get some petrol?

GAP have just lost the contract for the blue / green petrol, but still have it for the yellow (seaside) petrol, the audits are quite straight forward and all inside the store and just involve checking your planogram (supplied) with the stores layout and marking down anything which is wrong. Depending on the size of the store and how many errors you have they can take between 45-90 mins.
To give you an idea of pay, they are worth 3 burgers :j .

I was offered these ones as I was already doing auditing for them.

If you are interested, drop them an e-mail, marking it as AUDITS URGENT. I have found if you put URGENT in the subject heading, you get a reply quite quickly

Wonder where the Blue/green petrol ones have gone to?

I see the "shooting star" electrical retailer that used to be on TNS is now on RE.

I've not seen any jobs, even ones I've missed since Jan on Grassroots, so think they may have lost a few contracts too.

I wonder if Gap have lost the stamp shop  Anyone seen them elsewhere?

I've just booked a computer job for tomorrow with gap, and in the title of the job it says 'enquire for personal use', but the job notes are the same as for the business enquiry jobs. What should I do?
  • Is it me or are GAP just incompetent?
