I have earned £600+ this month plus another £500 in Working Tax Credit. So, it can provide an income that a single person can live on.

Wow! Is that pure income or are you including reimbursements and expenses?
  • LOL I'm doing a 2-in-one!!!

I've got 2 assignments booked on the same day at the same mobile phone shop, one with Gap and one with RE. I hope the scenarios arent too different!! Do you think I'll pull it off???

Just done my first job for Retail Maxim and got paid this week, but have only had the reimbursement for what I spent, not my expenses - does anyone know whether they pay these separately? I was a bit late sending my expense form in, so maybe missed a deadline for this month? Would they pay the reimbursement, because they know how much that is and I might get the expenses next month?

    TIA

They pay expenses separately if they are over a certain amount. I can't remember what the amount is, but it's somewhere between £15 and £24! Slightly strange, though, because they usually pay the expenses BEFORE the fee... However, if you've been paid within a week of doing the job, things have obviously got out of synch a bit.

Tractorgirl - I look forward to hearing about your visit! Yes, I think you ought to be able to roll the 2 together, as long as the 2 companies don't both want you to send the original page from the 'recommendation pad'. :D

£600 is the actual income paid to me. From that I have to deduct expenses (probably around £120).

I will not do any job under £10 (unless I can do other jobs nearby on the same day) and I am usually pretty quick at applying for jobs. I also do many jobs from home (telephone surveys) and this is better suited to me as I am disabled. I do quite a lot of financial shops and these pay really well (up to £50).

As I am single I don't qualify for most of the jobs with 'perks'; I will not go to fast food outlets, pubs or betting shops. I would go on holiday but need a family to qualify! I could get free flights to USA (if and when I am accepted).

The important thing with this work is to always do a good job! My rating is usually 9/10. I now find that I am getting more work because other people are getting the sack for cheating!
  • Can anybody tell me the best companies to sign up to do mystery shopping? so many different ones, I'm unsure who the best ones are.

    Many thanks!

I would start with someone like TNS as they sort your tax out for you so you don't have to register as self-employed straight away.

Do they? thats brilliant. Getting a little worried about what to do about tax etc. Will give them a try. Any others that are good for first timers?

    Thanks for your help!
  • Some of the TNS ones are REALLY in depth though......i've got a DIY one tomorrow and what i have to do is huge! The pub ones i've got for them though the questionnaires are fairly straightforward but no fees just reimbursments. I really like grass roots personally because the pay is quite good, i've found retail eyes questionnaires quite simply and jobs are quite quick but then for smaller pay.

RE and GR might have the easier reports but they also class you as self-employed. If you do only one job for them you will have to register as self-employed and file the self-assessment. It's surely better then to test the waters first with a PAYE company!?

By the way, I once accepted a DIY shop of TNS and after reading the brief I cancelled it again. Far too much required for far too little money. I told them why I cancelled the visit.
  • Well i've got my DIY one today, bringing my sister and splitting the check list which is HUGE! Don't think i'll do one of these again especially as i'm supposed to try and keep the reciept after a refund! May just go back in and say i've lost the receipt and hope for the best!
