  • Yes, this is my big concern, keeping him away from being naughty, but now he's got as much golf gear as he can eat and his nice shiny membership card for his boy's club I'll keep reminding him he doesnt need it. Anyway, I've decided when I'm out of debt I'm going to get myself a new(ish) Fiat Panda. It's about time I had something I really want. After his BMW's and other nice cars, his golf club membership and always getting everything he wanted, I think I will deserve it. ;)

    Anyway, Diary.
There's 70 left in the cash account, about 18 in my moneybox and I have about 6 in my purse. I'm going to resist drawing the 70 out till tomorrow as I dont really need it. Then it's fill the fridge (but not too much). Have 3 lates next week so Nan will feed us Tue, Thurs and Fri, which means I only have to find two meals for the week, lunches and food for the weekend.

    Wish me luck!

This is only my tuppence, but new cars, to me, come in to the law of diminishing returns.

OH and I have a car - an R reg (I think 10 years old) Fiat Brava. I got it when I was 23, when it was 3 years old and had done £20,000 miles, and it cost £5,500 then. It's probably not worth much now, perhaps £1k or so.

It's still fine, though. It still works, still fun to drive (1.6 litre) and I don't think we'll bother changing it until it gets unreliable.

IMHO, it's better to buy a slightly older, better-made car, than a cheaper, newer one.

But different people have different ideas of the marginal utility of items - for example, we as a couple spend a lot on holidays, but very little on electronic "stuff" or cars, etc.

  • Oh, I wont buy a brand new one, probably one 2-3 years old.

Anyway. We've been bought some tix to see Lee Evans at the Glee club on the 27th March and I am this excited! There's 8 of us going, should be great. We saw him there a couple of years ago, so much better in such a small room. I'm chuffed to bits.

Shopping this week came to 40, but havent bought any meat for Sunday or fruit as I refuse to pay supermarket prices for them, so I'll pop to the market and the butchers tomorrow. I've got about 40 in my purse, left 10 in the bank and a friend owes me 20 and I'll be seeing him on Monday.

    Phew.
Busy, busy day at work today, I can tell everyone is getting their first pay after Christmas, it was booking after booking. Helped there were extra incentives on too. So far my commission stands at about 520, on top of my basic of 910 and about 30 in overtime. I work that out to be about 1150 after tax. (not bad for a part time call centre monkey job, eh?) Still have 3 days at work this month, so if I can make that 1200 I will be stoked. 160 for the flights, 600 to live on leaves 440 to put toward the debts.

Right, it's vodka and tonic night, have just packed the kids to bed, going to have a bath and settle on the sofa.

great idea, someone else can lose the massive devaluation amount in the first couple of years, and you get a nice car for ages to come!

I think a lot of people at this time of year get fed up with the seemingly endless rain / dark etc, and think of booking holidays! Hope you get to your £1,200.

OH and I have just booked our summer holiday (for September, not going in school holidays until we have to!) and we are also going to Israel for a week in early April, to see OH's relatives. We'll stay with them, so that's not expensive.

  • Had a phonecall from the manager of a very large agency last night, asking me if I was enjoying my job where I am now and would I like to come in for a cup of tea and a chat. I dont think she will be able to even match my salary now, but I think I'll pop in. You never know, they may have that sales manager vacancy that so far has eluded me.
  • Hi

Just found your thread your doing so well :j . I hope OH behaves.

Mine isnt much better. He now sticks to his own budget and pays me some money each month which is a vast improvment :j . He still thinks 40ish every two weeks on petrol for pottering around and the odd 50 round trip is reasonable though  !

The fustration of being the only one who deals with the finances is so hard sometimes. My OH thinks Im overreacting and I swear his eyes glaze over when I try and explain the budget. I wouldnt mind but hes actually got a higher IQ than me but only any good for knowing stupidly long words it seems  .

Any way enough of my ramblings. Good luck and will follow your thread with interest.

  • Oh, he's not behaving at all. He's managed to spend over 500 since christmas on a credit card. On golf stuff, of course. Has just told me he used the debit card to put petrol in his car when he knows we are on cash only. This means I have to go to the bank now to put the extra tenner back in so we dont get charged, while he, of course, is on the golf course.

So, better get dressed and get to the bank and the market and enjoy the fresh air before I either explode or run away.
  • I wish I could say I dont believe it. What a shame he keeps doing this to you. Not much else I can say except (((((hugs))))).

  • His golf clubs? I'd love to but he's not paid his ebay fees. :D

I will not get down about this. I will do my job as a mother and take my kids out and we will have a nice day and we will enjoy the winter sunshine. Even if it kills me.
