  • Quick Q while the kettle boils for my hot toddy..(Brr, it's cold out there!)

I could, in theory, pay off and close down the House Of Fraser card tomorrow, but I dont know if I should wait til next week when OH gets paid. What do you lot think? All I would have to do is transfer back the money from the bills account next week instead.

    Decisions, decisions.

pay it off MM, it will make you feel so much better to have another card paid off!

Glad thinga have been picking up, i'm back in the driving seat and am more determined than ever to make my debts 10k less at the end of the year than they were at the start of the year.
  • I'm sitting here with my internet banking open and I can do it now. 116.90p. And you know what? I'm getting cold feet! I keep thinking "can I afford it? Will it leave me short? " All the things I thought when I previously considered paying off debts. Also I never expected in a million years I could start paying off the debts so early! The speed that I've managed to take control of my finances is shocking! The numbers seem so much smaller now I have control of them. I think I will wait until OH gets paid next friday, let the cash in my account accrue it's little bit of interest until I'm ready for it.
  • You've got to do things at a pace you feel ok with and if waiting a week to pay it off means less worry for you then that's the right thing to do!

Why not pay off half of it so you arent tempted to spend the money somewhere else and then clear it next week when your DH gets paid. Youll feel so much better when you ring up HofF and say 'could you close my account please'. Iv just done that wiyh capital one and it was marvellous!!:T

  • Havent paid the card off quite yet, have decided to wait til Friday so I can do a re-jig of the figures andsee what's left over. Just waiting for the big overtime and commission payday which is 3 weeks and 5 days away and counting. That should sort the lot out. The Holiday is now booked, the car hire reserved and even the parking at the airport so I know exactly how much I have left to pay.
  • Well, the payment break on the mortgage has been sorted for this month, we just call them if we want to do it again next month. That's given me some leeway in respect of the overdraft on the bills account, which is a relief. I have not fussed about money at all over the last two days. It's great. I've been out and bought myself a 13 pocket file so I can get all the statements in order and just watch numbers tumble.
  • And! And! And! Checked my loan balance: £1374. That's just 8! payments left!
  • Wow its excellent to hear about your progress so far.

  • I'm only just getting started! Feel so, so positive about it. It just goes to show all you people out there that just one positive step in the right direction and a goal at the end of it (My Fiat Panda-to-be) gets you on that road (no pun intended) where everything and anything becomes possible. Now, as much as I am aiming at being debt free in 2 years, I'm aware this is going to be a hard slog, so if it's a little longer I'm sure I will be able to live with it.

    Have a great day everyone.
