Ryanair refund thread

Oh dear, I’ve been waiting for 2 refunds from Ryanair now for a while, one is a month since confirmation so it looks like they are going to play the voucher game. I’ve got another lot coming up in June which I suspect will also be cancelled. We usually book with easyjet but for the first time this year booked 3 return flights with Ryanair as the timings were slightly better for us. I was rather hoping for cash refunds so that I can pay the balance of my September holiday (Easyjet flights) as I’m laid off from work I’d rather not have to use savings for the September holiday and hold Ryan air vouchers for an unknown period of time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I am trying to help my parents who had to purchase additional tickets to return to the UK despite having a return flight booked last year. That further flight was cancelled again. They sat at the airport for 7hrs with no refreshments waiting for the next flight. RyanAir are refusing any form of refund citing the situation to be extraordinary circumstances under EU261/2004. They have therefore paid twice for the same thing. Whilst agreed extraordinary, surely this cannot be right nor fair. Response from RyanAir - “case closed”. Any ideas anyone please?0

Extraordinary circumstances only gets them out of paying compensation in respect of cancelled flights. EU261/2004 still states they are entitled to a refund of cancelled flights, regardless of the reason. Did they try and claim EU261 compensation? Or perhaps use the EU261 refund form?JanP1967 said:I am trying to help my parents who had to purchase additional tickets to return to the UK despite having a return flight booked last year. The form for cancellation refunds is https://refundclaims.ryanair.com/ Be advised using this, they will likely end up with a travel credit. Ryanair are saying they will do cash refunds if people don't want vouchers, but aren't putting a timescale on this.0 -
Thanks for your help. We tried a straightforward simple letter initially believing Ryanair would be understanding. How wrong we were! They have mentioned vouchers somewhere along the line, but my parents are pensioners and need the cash in the situation we are in. We shall try the form. Thanks again.0

Hi - we are due to fly on the 11th May with Ryanair and have had an email offering for us to move our travel dates, however there is no mention of the flights having been cancelled and when I log on to my account it is still showing as active and able to check-in!! This seems absurd to me but is this just a case of them getting round to cancelling flights chronologically? I would want a refund from them, I don't want to change the travel date as things stand so is it best for me to just ignore their email and wait until the flight is officially cancelled before I can request a refund?
Many thanks in advance

It depends where you are flying. Ryanair are running a very limited schedule, but a handful of flights are still operating, for example a number of Dublin-UK flights. If your flight is still shown as operating it might be that they haven't got round to cancelling it, or it might be that it is actually operating. Per their policy, if its operating then you can only move to a later date. Only when it's cancelled will they refund (which will be a voucher to start with)njc1325 said:Hi - we are due to fly on the 11th May with Ryanair and have had an email offering for us to move our travel dates, however there is no mention of the flights having been cancelled and when I log on to my account it is still showing as active and able to check-in!! We are flying to Faro (Portugal) so I would assume it should be cancelled - I will wait then and see what they contact me with in a couple of weeks. I would also work on the assumption it will be cancelled. My flight to Portugal earlier this month was cancelled around 10 days in advance. As you say, they'll be working chronologically to manage their workload.njc1325 said:We are flying to Faro (Portugal) so I would assume it should be cancelled - I will wait then and see what they contact me with in a couple of weeks. The email takes you through to chat, good luck with that! We are in the same position as you. It does say in the email that they will not refund until after the Covid19 situation is sortedTSavage said:Ryanair said they would refund now issued voucher how can we refuse thisLoved our trip to the West Coast USA.
