Hi everyone, just thought I'd pop in & say hello - keep up the good work:T

I'm still trying to save, but after my Husband was particularly rude to me & said I was "Stupid living like a pauper, when we have some savings", have decided to loosen the reigns a bit, I think he could've put it nicer though:mad:
I do agree to certain extent but was trying to get to £9,000 before his secondment finishes mid July & he goes back to poop money! as can't see us being able to save then. I might do £8,000ish if I'm lucky as have quite a few days out planned & have bought a few bits for the house & shoes for the kids, getting the car serviced etc & generally not being so tight with shopping ( even bought booze!! )
I am finding it really difficult to spend without feeling guilty though - I suppose that's not a bad thing:confused:
We were hoping to use the savings to help us to move, but in the present climate, we may stay put do a few bits to this house, possibly have a well needed holiday & keep some for emergencies ( car is old! )
Anyway, this is definately a nicer problem/dilemma than, how am i going to pay everything this month!
Comping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

Morning guys - I am looking forward to 1st June - now that I have been paid, I can make my payments and overpayments without worrying......and hopefully can really start to see those numbers tumble!!

I was going to do a car boot today - but the weather is wet wet wet......so will have to try and ebay stuff instead!

  • Hi everyone.

Miserable weather isn't it? Definitely not car boot weather, Hypno. Ebay can be a bit of a pain to list stuff, but at least you're not up to your knees in mud!

At least I don't feel like going out, so I'm happier about sitting here and trying to make some money :) .

Welcome back Taxi, we missed you. Glad you had a good holiday and it looks like your luck's still in :) .

Kizzy - Like Andan says, you have to have some sort of balance, especially now you're debt free, but old habits die hard :).

Happy birthday Andan. Hope you have a great day tomorrow.

    Hope everyone's fine.

End of my month so totted up where I am with this. I started in May so am only going for £16K and am nearly a quarter of the way there so am pleased with that. Going to try to add £2K a month from now on.

You are all so right about having a life balance, but after being in debt for most of my adult life, I don't want to go back there, I'd like to know if you all feel the same when you become debt free, the initial wow, then arrggghh because you're scared to every go back to sleepless nights & feeling sick all the time?
It will be interesting to know & the way you are all going, you'll be able to tell me very soon......;) or maybe it's just me, I always need something to worry about :o

Hi Kizzy..will be a long time before I can tell you how it feels but how about if you want something for a treat buy it in the best MSE way and at least that way you can still feel like you are doing it the MSE way and still get a bit of a buzz also have you thought about using a cashback card and putting everything on there and setting up a DD to pay it in full every month...just a couple of ideas.

Kizzy, I think i know how you feel. Like i said previously, i don't class myself as being in debt, i have credit cards but can pay them off if i want to. However i have a bit in savings and people often ask me what i'm saving for and don't quite understand me when i say i'm not saving for anything. My family grew up in poverty and i suppose in some ways i save money to ensure i don't go back to that. My partner always laughs though when i say i don't have any money left this month, or can't afford to do something, he points out that i have plenty of money in my isa.

I think what you are feeling is natural, you don't want to go back to being in debt which is great, but perhaps your taking it a little to the extreme, which is also natural, in time i think you will learn the balance.
