    ***UPDATE***
Spoken to HMRC this morning and the bank have referred  back to hmrc as they don't believe me to be entitled to my refund.
HMRC have said they may have to do more checks on me which could take 2 weeks ,
I over paid 1800 on my paye income and claimed just under 3000 for business miles
I have a log of all my business miles so should be okay but just at least another 2 weeks with no access to mg account .
    Disgraceful from Santander.

HMRC also saying from what they can see there is no issues with my return whatsoever   HMRC and DWP have also confirmed I will not receive any benefit as it has gone through as income earned an that cant be changed now.

***UPDATE*** Complaints from bank have called me and awarded me £80 compensation for being misled and lied to but still wont release my tax rebate
They are saying I need to provide proof of why i am entitled to the rebate ie mileage logs and any overpayment of tax on my paye income

This is turning into an episode of the Twilight Zone.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

If banks are interested in investigating refunds from HMRC, why don't they start to investigate our payments? Maybe they could check with HMRC if we are not overpaying our taxes. I still don't think it's their business why you got refund from HMRC.

I am still convinced the HMRC link is a complete red herring.

The only positive really is that HMRC are being helpful they have advised me not to send my mileage log to the bank as it is just wasting my time HMRC don't want nothing else from ie evidence they said they will try an get in contact with bank asap but could be upto 2 weeks and also will be sending me a letter out to instruct the bank to release the funds but bank have already told me they may not accept that letter very strange
