This is the point I tried to make to the bank be cause as it stands now they would rather me go in with a record of my mileage (which is all handwritten in my diary btw) which could so easily be forged than to have a sa302 tax calculation from HMRC madness
I would ring HMRC again and see if they can contact Santander directly? Worth a shot OP
HMRC said everything needs to be sent in post for security reasons they did also say this has happened to quite a few people now.

This has also stopped me being eligible for any benefits as the rebate is classed as income to which the bank just said that's not there problem
A £4,000 tax refund should not impact upon your benefit entitlement.  Your benefits start being effected if your savings are over £6,000, gradually reducing until you get to £16,000, at which point your benefits will stop completely.

Have you advised the DWP about what has happened?  What did they say?
Universal credit say that they class it as earnings reprted to HMRC for your award period so I would not be entitled to any this month due to earning X amount which is the rebate which I can not access so frustrating
I **think** the DWP advisor you spoke to may not be correct either.  (I am no expert though).

I suggest you post a query about that in the benefits board.

A tax rebate is treated as income for UC.  It is a refund of earnings that were deducted for tax  purposes  so it earned income.

I have been into branch today to chase up my evidence being reviewed that are saying that my sa302 and receipt of payment from HMRC is not sufficient evidence to prove I am entitled to the rebate 🤔they started asking for proof of my expenses which I claimed for which was flat rate mileage

Your branch is dealing with this issue?

No the branch not dealing with it I have been going to branch with the same evidence I have sent by email as you get a receipt off them to say documents have been put in system as last week the call centre where saying thay arent receiving any of my emails which again was a lie because in branch she got them all up straight away.
  • I don’t think this issue is just limited to Santander, I’ve had a similar thing happen with my NatWest account. Also told the same things, nothing they can do to let me access my money and to feed my 4 children I’ll just have to borrow some money was the advice from a NatWest customer service.

I’ve also contacted financial ombudsman I think this is happening a lot

It's a terrible situation all round isnt it. How long has this been going on for you an was it because of a tax refund going in?

Could the bank think you are a business user but using a normal bank account?

No I am sole trader/paye so no breach of account rules from what I can gather I think they don't believe I should have the rebate I got  ie asking for proof of my expenses .
Just got off phone again they are now saying HMRC have sent you that payment without checking your return so we cant be sure you are entitled to it!
    Does this sound right??

Being a sole trader is being a business user - even if you also have PAYE employment.
However their statement about HMRC is ridiculous.
