This is one of the most bizarre things I've read. Why are Santander investigating the OP's tax return? Since when did they become tax inspectors?

The only positive really is that HMRC are being helpful they have advised me not to send my mileage log to the bank as it is just wasting my time HMRC don't want nothing else from ie evidence they said they will try an get in contact with bank asap but could be upto 2 weeks and also will be sending me a letter out to instruct the bank to release the funds but bank have already told me they may not accept that letter very strange
The HMRC have no authority whatsoever to instruct any bank to release funds from an account that the bank has blocked. Just like no bank has any authority whatsoever to query an HMRC refund to one of their account holders.

It's just one big mess and I'm stuck in the middle. Santander seem to acknowledge that they have treated me poorly to some extent but are insisting on me providing my expenses from my tax return or they will not release the funds.

As muchas this thread seems bonkers.

I have, as an onlooker seen more and more of these threads where a bank has over zealously shut people's accounts. Particularly NatWest. Seems to be happening all the time now. Crazy

    ***Update***
Bank have just called to confirm what evidence I need to provide them with as the sa302 off HMRC not acceptable proof of entitlement.
They want details of my tax return ie expenses etc.
I have asked them to confirm in  writing they are investigating my tax return to which they replied we are not investigating your tax return but will not release your payment u til we have all your info from your tax return.
This is just the strangest thing iv ever experienced.
