@JustAnotherSaver - I've still had no explanation of my offset payment either - that's reminded I was going to keep emailing on a monthly basis which means chase again today.... It usually takes 12 months to wind up a company - so Tonik shouldn't be in a rush for payment until they explain what we don't understand!  All the best with the move from SP, mine went smoothly....
I did a bit of digging on what Tonik mean by Offset payment.

    1) Did you pay a security deposit when you initially signed up? If so if you missed a payment of had an unexpected rise in usage they may have used part of the security deposit to 'offset' this. This is why it may it look like a payment although nothing came directly out of your bank account.

    2) If you are on a flexible DD, they also talk of using credit on your account to 'offset' any differences between what you paid by DD and what was billed. Although I can't get my head round why they would do that. I always though flexible DD was designed to keep the credit at £0. Tonik may have built a security buffer into it though so instead of £0 its £50 or something.

Did Tonik pay interest on credit? it may be a creative way of reducing the credit on the account, but again can't quite get my head around the mechanics of that.

TLDR... offset seems to be a method of moving money internally within your tonik account. Its not an actual physical payment.

Search for offset in this document:

    @JustAnotherSaver
I looked back at the bills you posted, you mention making a payment in early October, but the statements you show only run up to the 2nd of October. Even if you paid on the 1st of October it probably wouldn't  appear as paid on your Tonik account till a few days later, so i wouldn't get oo hung up on it not showing in the statement. As long as the overall credit amounts are correct on your final bill.

  • @Bark01 - thank you very much for trying to help!!  I'm afraid none of the entries apply.  It's linked with my July bill which shows offset amount showing payments of £236.60 (against a bill I cannot view) when my Mar-Jul direct debits totalled £325.01, so a difference of £88.41 (my DD until April was £80.56 and then reduced to £54.63 from May when I renewed for a further year).  There is no mention of any paying interest on credit.  All my other payments are showing in other bills.  They didn't answer this query in my initial email, only about my Jan/Feb payments - so I'm beginning to think it's not straightforward?!  Who knows....
  • HNY everyone! How is it going?
So, in a complete twist for me - I'm staying with SP - I might be made - but I managed get the corporate complaints department to square up a decent tariff for me, basically best of the major players (Im getting to a point where I've been hit twice by companies going bust where I just can't be arsed with the hassle any more) and then got them to give me £100 credit for the inconveniance and hassle and backdate the deal as well a month.
I've now been told the credit has been moved across as well from Tonik, so just really waiting for an online account to make sure I can see it all and believe it all!
  • @funkyfin2000 - Yes  HNY to you too!  All is going well with Outfox the market.  All the best with SP - sounds like you got a great deal - I would have stayed if they'd been more competitive... I got an email from SP confirming Tonik credit, despite SP saying they were still setting up my account....
@JustAnotherSaver - I've just had a reply from Tonik about the offset issue - "I'm confused as to what you are asking for. Your payments have been received but wont show on the bill as it has been re-billed, When the system rebills it leaves all the payments on, adds credit equal to the removed charges, and then adds new charges and new payments but not the old ones, so the payment wont show on the new bill as it is already on the account from the previous bill."  They've then sent me a screen dump of all the Mar-Jul payments.  So I'll still never understand that bill as I can't see the offset bill, but will accept it based on the screen dumps of my DDs.
  • Still no sign of my tonik refund here
  • @worrywart_3 - have you had an outcome on SP having listened to their call with you, regarding them reneging on your deal offered over the phone?

Just received my Final Bill from SP a couple of days ago.
There is no mention of the credit I had with Tonik.

An earlier email from SP said this:-
"When we took over your supply, we promised to honour any outstanding credit balance you may have had with Tonik Energy and that this would be transferred to your new ScottishPower account or issued to you by cheque.
Before we can do this, Tonik Energy need to calculate your final bill for the period you were with them to work out if you are due money back in the form of a credit balance, or you need to pay an outstanding balance to them
We've been advised that they are currently working on your final bill and will send it to you as soon as possible. They will also notify us if any credit balance is due to you which we'll then apply to your ScottishPower account.
You don't need to take any action. Please be assured we remain committed to honouring any outstanding credit balance due to you"

They received the final bill from Tonik some time ago.
Has anyone received their Tonik credit payment from SP? If so, how was it paid? Was it deducted from the SP final bill or a separate payment to the bank?

@dosh37 - it appeared in my SP account after getting a separate email from SP confirming this.  Yes, it was deducted from my final SP bill, and the outstanding credit arrived by bank transfer.  I'd definitely contact SP CEO office - as if you didn't receive your credit in week 4 of getting your final bill, Tonik advised to chase SP.

Not really I did speak finally to a helpful complaint advisor and got some compensation and have said they won’t charge me exit fees the deal I’m on is much higher than I can get elsewhere but I’m waiting for my warm front grant and tonik refund before I leave as it should be here by March ( warm front ) they have said compensation should be in my account Tuesday we shall see.
