Horrible morning here, even the supermarket opened opened a bit early to let people in out of the rain! Just eaten brunch, set up now for the rest of the day, had turkey rashers, grilled tomatoes, scrambled egg (no idea when I had scrambled last), toasted roll with cheese instead of butter. Full tum now, so no need to think about dinner yet, having steak with a medley of roast veg, no carbs.
Off to do the ironing now, have a good day everyone!

Changed lunch a bit! Had cheese and coleslaw rather than cheese salad sandwich so saved 3 syns as only had 1 Tbs of light mayo mixed with the coleslaw!
GTQ that's an SP day there as long as you keep the syns down below 10. I love scrambled eggs but after nearly 50 years I found out a few months ago that DH doesn't really like it! No idea why he let me carry on making it if he didn't particularly like it. I do still have scrambled occasionally but no as often as I used to; when I do DH usually has either fried eggs on toast or one fried egg on toast with another slice with beans on. I really don't like fried eggs and beans together which is why I only ever have them together with a fry up when I can put the sausages or bacon along the middle of the plate to keep them separate! DH thinks I'm mad maybe so but can't egg yolk and tomato sauce mixing!

Raining here too, it's barely stopped all day. 🙁
I portioned up the red cabbage for the freezer. I got 14 portions so I'm calling it syn free as the syns for some cooked apple and sweetener divided by 14 isn't worth working out.
How do you make stew denise? What we called stew as a child was the traditional Welsh cawl. It was basically beef with root veg in stock . My mother didn't thicken it but did sometimes do dumplings with it. If we had a thick soup as a meal it was so called pea soup thickened with lentils and ham based. My DH doesn't really like the cawl but he's happy with any sort of casserole. I like the cawl and it's cheap enough as usually made with shin. I think I'll buy parsnips and shin next week and make some for myself. It's quite substantial so more filling than soup.
I had a small amount of stir fry left so I did extra veg to stretch it for my lunch so it was probably about 80%+ veg with a tiny bit of chicken and noodles.
Today's EE plan-
B- NAS grapefruit (F), bacon, fried eggs (P), tomatoes (S)
L- LO stir fry (P,S, F)
D- HB steaks (P), SW roast potatoes (F), onions, mushrooms, swede, carrots, red cabbage, green cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauli
Syns- weekend wine
I'm not synning the gravy either as a shared tsp of cornflour is hardly with bothering about. I generally have some left too which I'll save to have during the week.1 -
My stew is probably more like Cawl maman as there is far more veg than meat! I used just over a Kg of flat rib beef to make 8 portions so obviously not a lot of meat per portion! I made a couple of herby dumplings for DH when I reheated it but didn't have any myself. The gravy didn't really need thickening as I'd used a soup and broth mix in it which helped thicken it.
When I reheat the frozen portions I'll probably need to add some water or stock and if necessary will thicken with a bit of cornflour.
I don't syn the gravy either when I make HB steak - like you I think it's such a small amount it's not worth bothering. I bought some braising steak when I did my bulk meat shop for this month so will be having HB steaks at some stage this month.

Thanks denise. I must be cold and hungry to be fantasising about stew. 😁 What my mother made was rather like a consomme with large chunks of root veg. I've sometimes had pot au feu like it in France although that can vary from one cook to another.2
