I suppose it's swings and roundabouts. I live less than 3 miles from the city centre and we have all the supermarkets, several branches, in easy travelling distance except for Morrison's which only has one local branch so I rarely go there. I expect there are other advantages of living in a country village though. 😁
  • Evening all
We had a lovely few days away last week, it was very much off plan, but we enjoyed it, and it's now back to reality again.
I've not dared step on the scales yet - will give it a few days to balance out, and then brace myself ;)

    Plan today:
B - banana; porridge HEB with water, sugar (1), splash of cream (3)
L - 2 LF LO sausages from last night's dinner (3).  Was meant to have HM soup, but didn't have time, so put it in the fridge for tomorrow instead.
D - Stir fried pork with oriental veggie mix, sweet & sour sauce (2) and egg noodles
    snacks - mini roll bites for colleague's b/day (6)
    HEA - milk in tea/coffee

I'm a bit gutted I didn't have time for my soup because I went to the effort of making it before I went to work.  First time the soup maker has been out since the start of the year.  It's packed with veg: carrots, sweet potato, celery, onions, pepper, garlic, cabbage, 2 stock cubes, basil & rosemary and a bit of black pepper.  It did smell lovely, and made enough to fill another microwave soup mug and a full large kilner jar, so I think enough for the week.

I hope you are all okay.  I haven't had a chance to catch up fully on the thread, but on the supermarket front I'm fortunate to live in a small market town, and we have a medium sized MrT & Sainsbobs, new Lidl and M&S food hall, a small Co-Op and small  MrT at the Esso petrol stn., and a Heron (good for bargains).  When I first moved to the area over 20 yrs ago there was 1 local co-op in the town.  We don't have much of a high st. any more, so grateful for the choice we do have.  Nearest bigger town is about 16 miles from us, where the Aldi is I like to go to.

Good to hear you enjoyed your break sary. The great thing about soup is that it keeps. If you can't eat it tomorrow (and I'm sure you will 😋) then you can freeze it. 😁

Glad you had a good break Sary and that you enjoyed your off plan meals.  I had a good break too but unfortunately most of the meals we had out weren't enjoyable and as far as I was concerned were wasted syns.  I've been good since we got back and am hoping that tomorrow I'll be around top end of target or even just under!  I've kept the syns lower than usual so fingers crossed!

I'm quite a long way from shops - the nearest are on a new estate and I've got Morries, Icel*nd, B&M & Poundland which is about 5 miles away.  Before that opened a few years ago the closest SM was Mr T and the Co-op which are about 8 miles away.  Aldi opened there about 5 years ago but I really don't like the shop, it always seems dirty so I tend not to go in there unless there is something on the Super 6 that I particularly want!

I do most of my shopping in the next town at Lidl which is 15 miles away but there is also Sainsbobs (which I very rarely use); M&S Food Hall and another Morries.  It's worth the petrol to use Lidl as it's far cheaper than Mr Ts.

    Today's plan:

    B - Honey Monster cereal (20g); milk - part HEA/0.5 HEB
    L - Fry up - bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans - P; S; F
    D - Pork steak, mash, veg - P; S; F
    S - Ryvita; Primula Light

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - milk/Primula Light
    HEB - cereal (0.5); 2 Ryvita (0.5)
    Syns - none planned
  • Morning all, glad you had a good time sary, hope you get to enjoy your soup for lunch today.

On the supermarket front we're almost equal distance from a Sainsburys, 2 Lidls, Tesco and Morrisons.  There's also an Asda just a little bit further away and an Aldi and Waitrose in the next nearest town.  DH is a Sainsbury lover through and through so we pretty much always go there but I have some money off vouchers for Tesco so will taking advantage of those for the next 3 weeks (even if it scares me to go to a different supermarket at the moment).  I'd love to be able to transition to Lidl or Aldi for most of our shopping and then Sainsbury's for the little extras that he likes from there but all the branches have been chaotic when I've been past recently so will have to wait a little longer.  I mostly buy own brand and basics versions where available because I don't see the point in the branded stuff for the sake of more money.

Plan for today was more overnight oats for breakfast, same halloumi salad for lunch and then chicken burrito style bowls for dinner tonight with plenty of salad.  It's star week at the moment so the fact I haven't raided the biscuit tin yet is a miracle!  Hope you all have a good day.

  • Back in the swing of it again today, and I have a plan!
B - porridge HEB, milk from HEA, sugar (1) splash of cream (3)
    L - soup; banana; nectarine
D - hm burgers, sw chips, salad, LF dressing (1)
Will probably have a skinny latte later on as OH and I often go out for one on a Wednesday, but I tend to take that from my HEA allowance as it's without syrup or any sugars.  It's a nice treat though.

Well done ruby on not raiding the biscuit tin!  It can be so hard not to eat junk when it's star week.  Glad I don't have to worry about that any more, LOL!

Glad you're back in the swing of things sary.  Hope you manage to actually eat the soup today!

I added a pork & herb patty to the fry up at lunchtime as people at group really rave about them but I definitely won't be buying any more!  They were OK but tiny and 2.5 syns each, definitely not worth the syns.  In fact DH said to use up the rest of the box I ought to defrost them and use them to make scotch eggs!  Think he was even less impressed than me.
