Morning all.  Welcome millerose, everyone here is lovely and has a lot of knowledge of the plan and always willing to offer advice.

Two slices of wholemeal bread and butter might have slipped past my lips last night but I'm drawing a line and moving on.  Woke up feeling not brilliant so need to start taking my supplements again I think.

B - porridge (HEB and 1/2 HEA of unsweetened almond milk), strawberries, blueberries, 2 syns of golden syrup
L - Egg salad (mixed leaves, cucumber, tomato, peppers, onion, gherkins, beetroot)
D - Mushroom risotto (mushrooms, arborio rice, stock, herbs, 1/2 HEA parmesan), salad on the side

Treated myself to some pink lady apples this week so can have one of those and some popcorn if I get peckish later on.

  • Morning all! Hope Denise managed to get away and is able to have a good break.  Welcome to the house of fun millierose.

Looking for suggestions please. Currently in process of emptying the freezer, this will probably take another 2 weeks if I am to allow for alternative freshly cooked meals.  I then plan to spend some time batch cooking and freezing, so I will have something SW (not that they are not currently SW friendly!) to eat if I can't be bothered to cook fresh or if under the weather.  What are your favourite meals to freeze, would like to do something different to the usual spag bol, med chicken orzo, chilli of various sorts, diet cola chicken, etc. I have a Costco card, so bulk buying meat is not a problem. Allergic to pork, so any of that may include pork will need to be able to change to chicken. Also happy to have veggie meals.
A smile costs little but creates much :)

GTQ - I always have a couple of portions of chinese style curry sauce in the freezer (it's the Slimming Eats recipe) which is both syn free and made of speed foods; handy to make a meat or veggie version or even with a pack of stir fry veggies chucked in.  Also pretty much always have a portion of her 0.5 syn lasagne in there too but may be too similar to the spag bol.  Another thing that we have which DH also loves is a chickpea curry which is really quick to make from scratch but also useful to have in the freezer to just defrost and go - I use the Knorr pulled aubergine curry recipe but just don't have the aubergine and will sometimes leave out the coconut milk if I don't want a lot of syns.  While it's not batch cooking, I usually have some of those boil in the bag cod portions in parsley or butter sauce or just basic fish fillets and frozen veg: nice and quick to chuck the fish either in a pan or in the oven, add the veg and sometimes I'll have some mushy peas to go with it to.  I'm all for quick and easy meals sometimes!

    Hi everyone,
Welcome millerose. I’m new here too and despite knowing the plan it’s been great having others help in planning my meals, and reminders about getting enough Speed food.
Hope joedenise has a lovely break
No running this morning. Food today will be:
    B - 2 weetabix and skimmed milk (HEB/HEA)
L - leftover bolognaise bake, lettuce, tomatoes (S)
D - cowboy hotpot. Will use Aldi skinny sausages. Please can someone confirm the syn value - they are the 6 pack fresh ones - TIA
    Snacks will be satsuma, apple.
    Have a good day all.
    Coxy xx

The Aldi sausages are half a syn each coxy and well worth it IMO!

ETA- one of my sausage casserole recipes is very similar to the cowboy hotpot. It only has baked beans but I add mushrooms, babycorn and courgettes (whatever I have in really) to up the Speed. We like it with tagliatelle rather than potatoes.  Its a lovely, filling meal.

I would recommend a veggie chiili GTQ. It's so incredibly easy and makes a nice meal with rice or  equally good as a topping for JP. I always do mine in the SC and then I can forget about  watching it. I use the Hairy Bikers' Chilli Con Carne recipe as the basis and add carrots, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, baby corn, celery to the usual tomatoes and onions. Instead of meat I add various beans, usually 3 cans in total depending what I have in. I stick to beef stock for flavour and also add a Tesco red wine stockpot for depth of flavour. It seems to taste better (just like curry and Bolognese) if not eaten on the same day as it marinates even in the freezer.  I always keep some HM ready meals in the freezer. I put at least one on  on my meal plan each week then drop them if we eat out. Sadly that hasn't happened for 4 months!

Seeing you with your golden syrup ruby, reminds me that I need to buy some skinny syrup. It's not as nice as the real thing but it all saves syns.  It means I'll have to go into the city centre to TKMaxx, hopefully they'll have some. I buy caramel flavour.

    Today's EE plan-
B- NAS grapefruit (F), fried egg (P), tomatoes and mushrooms (S), HEB toast, HEA milk
    L- veggie omelette (P,S), ham (P), beetroot (S)
D- chicken casserole (P,S) including  new potatoes (F), butter beans (P) with cauli, cabbage and broccoli (S)
    Syns- cornflour for sauce 1

maman, you've just reminded me that I have 3 bottles of skinny syrups in my kitchen and needn't have used golden syrup on my porridge this morning!  Think it's because they aren't in the same cupboard as the other syrups and sauces so will move them this afternoon and will hopefully use those from now on!

I struck lucky today. I went out briefly to go the Post Office and called into the little Coop for some BoB milk. They were just doing their reductions so managed to get loads of half price fish (salmon and smoked haddock)  and lamb chops. Freezers looking much healthier now.  I think they're suffering because the shop is underneath a student residence and there are very few students there except some who are marooned because they can't fly home.

When we last did our kitchen, we moved the washing machine and dryer out so now I have room for 2 under the counter freezers. Before that I had an inherited chest freezer outside but it died. Even though there are only 2 of us at home I wouldn't be without them.
