As title says, been with all three banks for many years. HAd a basic account with them and alwys tried to upgrade to a current one but always got rejected. This week i tried again and instantly upgraded with 10 seconds to current accounts! Finally, i thought! Been waiting a long time.....

Thought i would see if i can get a credit card. So i applied to all three for a CC. They did a soft check and i was accepted via the soft check after putting in my details. They even sent me all the credit agreements etc via email. I know with soft checks they usually check for defaults, ccj etc. As i passed that and as i been a customer with them for years i thought guaranteed to be accepted. My credit file is fine apart from old CCJ and defaults.

Did the application then at the end it said we need to do some further checks. Got my verdict today from all three companies, all rejected!
I feel robbed, they basically did me over. 3 hard searches for no reason. What was the point in the soft check? I passed the difficult test of the CCJ and default, why would they reject me.

The soft checks are just an indicator - they are usually reliable but when you do the pre-application check you are advised that a full check will be carried out and might still be declined. It's annoying I know. However I am a little more surprised that you applied for three credit cards, all at the same time, all effectively from the same banking group! That may be  the problem.... If I were you I would accept the upgraded current accounts, wait six months and then go for one card application with one of the three banks.

If you'd only applied for one - you might have stood a chance - by applying for three at exactly the same time - it would scream 'you are desperate for credit' - yes the eligibility checkers give you a good idea of whether you'll be accepted - but no doubt when they looked in detail and saw three simultaneous hard searches - it probably rang all kinds of alarm bells. You haven't been done over as you say - more like naive - wait a few months - and then apply for ONE credit card IF the eligibility checker says you're likely to be approved. DON'T check a long list of checkers - find all the ones that say yes - and then apply for them all. Do you see where you might have gone wrong?

I was talking to a friend a couple of weeks ago and she said she asked her bank for an overdraft and they declined, when questioned why it was declined the person said "It's probably because you've got payments going out to debt collection companies",  Dunno how true that is but might me an issue if you're paying off old debts from these bank accounts.

3 cards all at once from different institutions is a risky move unless you have a spotless history and excellent affordability. Three cards from same institution (with shared IT) is a really bad idea

it wouldn’t surprise me if accounts were downgraded (or CPD credit policy declined marker) or closed soon, they might be worried about the OP getting 3 overdrafts

    In answer to questions:
Yes i realise that soft check is not a guarantee but i just had upgraded to current accounts without a credit check due to me being a long time customer and obvious ally meaning my credit file looking better then previously. So i thought i go for a credit card with better rates then i currently have with aqua and amazon. Sick to death of these high interest cards.

Wasnt planning on doing a full check but once i passed the soft check also the fact they changed the offer aswell saying i wasnt eligible for the best card so they changed the interest rate slightly. Also because i have been a customer for so long. All this pointed in me being accepted. My only concern was there CCJ and defaults but the soft check clearly checked those and were happy. So i did the full check and at the end it said 'we will get back to you with a decision'. That does not make any sense to me! My credit file is fine!

Because of this i applied again to BOS as i wanted an answer straight away, and the exact same thing. Card accepted, different interest rate, docs sent, applied in full, 'we will get back to you with a decision'. Finally i did halifax and they came back saying we cant offer you x amount but we will offer you slightly less. Went through the same hoops and same answer.

Also i am not paying any debt collectors through my bank, i dont even have any, anymore. If i did they were all paid through an old account.

I have no idea what an AAA member member means.

3 hard searches now and all for no reason. All because i have been mislead. You can look at it anyway you want, but the bottom line is i have been mislead! Funny how i wasnt given a credit check when upgraded. Infact i did about 5 upgrades on the same time. Changed from llyods basic to current, then changed my mind and went from current to lloyds club all on the same time. Did Bos to current, but changed my mind and went to BOS Vantage. Did halifax to current rewards. All done in the space of an hour on the same day. New cards arrived today.

Its not funny that you weren't credit checked on a current account change.  Its standard.

You need to get your credit frenzy under control.  It's all too much, too soon at the moment.  Lenders want to see controlled, measured behaviour, not someone charging around like a supermarket sweep winner.

You're still not getting it are you? You applied for THREE credit cards at the SAME time - creating THREE hard searches at the SAME time. Yes the computer might have originally said yes - but once they looked at the detail and saw that you'd applied for THREE cards in quick succession - it's just going to trigger all kinds of warnings and then the ultimate decision to decline the applications. You haven't been misled - you've been greedy - trying to get all the cards at the same time. Wait a few months - keep all your accounts in order - and then try again - but with ONE card.
