I don't think what you would like from a relationship is unusual , I think most people with a certain history and of a certain age just want someone to see a couple of times a week for a bit of escape and company without any great expectations / commitments 
Can you go back to basics and acheive this with Andy or there something lacking on the excitement front ?

I hope in time we can go back to that but at the moment Andy is struggling, his anxiety has kicked in massively because of this and as much as he says he is happy to do that I, and he, know that he can't deal with that at the moment.

So I went round to Andy's this afternoon to collect some of my stuff, unfortunately he'd been drinking and wanted to talk about stuff again. He kept repeating the same stuff over and over and I said I couldn't / didn't want to keep going over it. He then walked towards me (I was sat on the sofa), I thought he was going to try to kiss me but he got right up in my face and was pointing his finger at me, then hit me round the face. A proper full-force slap. I grabbed my stuff and ran. I drove straight to my mates house, crying, called the police and have had to give details for it to go on file but I don't want to press charges. His mental health is shocking and he is suffering enough, I don't want to add to it any more. So I am now chugging some vodka, hoping my cheek will stop stinging at some point soon  
I'm fine but clearly still a really rubbish judge of character I have only told my best mate so please don't mention anything if you're friends with me on facebook xx

I’ve been a lurker on your diary for some time but have crawled out to say that I’m so sorry this has happened after he seemed to be such a nice bloke. Don’t know what else to say really, just sending you a gentle hug. Better off away from someone like this though, there’s no excuse for hitting a woman. I hope he regrets it but it can never be excused.

Thank you Sun Addict xx I keep crying, the shock I guess. He was honestly the last person I ever thought would do that. After everything I don't do trust, at all, yet I trusted him as he was so open and honest and now this. It will set me back yet again with letting anyone in. I just feel rubbish tonight. I'm worried for him too despite everything. I phoned his best mate and he went and picked him up and took him back to his house as he is worried that he'll do something stupid otherwise. He has attempted suicide in the past. If only I knew all this at the beginning

Wow ! sounds like you got out in the nick of time.
I guess it just shows you never really know what you are dealing with.
I hope he wakes up very remorseful but leaves you be and crawls under his rock.
