I got some mini globe artichokes in my veg box and decided to cook them yesterday.
Now, I really like artichokes, but to be honest, I don't think they are worth all the faffing around.
Certainly the hearts in the mini ones are hardly worth the effort of doing battle with the spiky leaves and all the lethal hairs of the 'choke'! Plus, being mini ones, there's not a lot of flesh at the base of the leaves, either.
It's probably easier with the full-size ones, but I haven't had one for years.
I've got more mini ones coming next week, but tbh I don't think I'll bother, and if I can't give them away, they'll probably go into the compost. ☹️(I just lurve spiders!)

In that vein I found a cauliflower (in the beer fridge) - over a week old I can say with confidence (and no, I don't know what it was doing there either!) We had cauliflower cheese with a few of the leaves as well as the florettes and followed that with the last of the gooseberry fool topped with homegrown red-currants and strawberries. I found two aubergines too so they will be tonight's supper basis.
I've had my first milk delivery today. After several months where the local shops have only offered organic whole milk in 1 pint or 1 litre plastic bottles instead of 2 pint and 4 pint we have decided to go glass. We are fortunate that this is a lifestyle choice we can afford but it was lovely to find it on the doorstep this morning.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

We had some of those mini artichokes a couple of week's back - I must shamefully admit that they dehydrated before we got to our grand plans involving pasta & olives! Went in with the garden waste & were carted away by the farmhand to add to his compost pile!
We had our bi-weekly grocery delivery yesterday - took two hours to put away the groceries!😱 (there is a story there but sounded too much like a grumble so deleted it! - lol)
Thank goodness for a simple meatfree-Monday meal of tortellini, baby spinach, slice mushrooms & 1/2 jar of shelf-stable own-brand porcini sauce. OH assembled quickly while I unloaded/loaded the dishwasher and did a final round of fridge & freezer tetris! We had knock-off c0rn3tt0s for afters - yum - what a treat!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! We are approaching what husband refers to as courgetteageddon. I picked two more yesterday and chopped them in half lengthways, layered them with pre-roasted aubergine and and a cheats jar of bolognaise sauce and grated cheese on top, and baked again. It was almost 9pm by the time we eat and so I was up at 5.45 this morning. That will teach me to be so slovenly. Outdoor projects are taking precedence.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Using up a chickpea and vegetable curry from the freezer today. It was very mild so will need to add some extra spices when I reheat it tonight, otherwise it won't be worth eating!

Lunch was a egg, veg & leftover rice stir-fry! Quick and tasty - Yum.
Dinner was forward planned as we had a grocery delivery on Monday - Rosemary Maple roast chicken & root veg with frozen yogurt for dessert. Broke out some of my precious stock of Maple Syrup as it's Canada Day today 🍁🍁🍁😁4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I'm not normally a lover of pizza, except from one excellent restaurant near me.
i was really craving one of theirs today, but they are still closed and not doing takeaways or deliveries.
I still really fancied one, though, so took a chance and ordered one from an unknown/untried restaurant to be delivered within the hour.
Well, it was a big disappointment. It wasn't very nice at all.☹️I couldn't eat much of it.☹️
I will try heating the rest of it up tomorrow when I'm hungry and see if it's any better, but if not, it will have to be the food waste bin, which I haven't used for weeks.☹️
The pizza cost £13+ and delivery was £4, so if I don't manage to eat it tomorrow, it's all a complete waste.
That'll learn me. ☹️(I just lurve spiders!)
