I'm almost tempted to buy a pack of filo pastry, sitting here my mouth is quite literally watering! I must not, at least until after Easter, because of my lent commitment. Weight seems to have plateau'd today my fault - I had a mix of nuts and seeds with some salted peanuts stirred through yesterday that were just because I was sitting with pup (damaged leg, being forced to rest). We went for quick and easy and had cauliflower cheese last night.
I think I will make the chilli today as DS is coming over tomorrow and will eat with us and it is also always nicer reheated. When out in the outhouse commercial freezer collecting courgettes I realised I had two bags of broad beans in there so will add some of these to the chilli.
Currently I am making up a syrup to help our bees draw comb and I promised to make a bread pudding for DS to use up some of the baked products taking up freezer space. I just need DH to retrieve the weird Hot X buns from the garage freezer as I'm going to add these too (weird because he mentioned he thought that they were non-standard ones - I didn't notice but there's a thing going on with chilli this year). I was truly baffled until i saw the picture @Suffolk_lass How weird!Follow here for the daily life of an ADHD mum with 2 children and a new mortgage to pay

Lunch yesterday used up the last brioche roll, salad bits and half a ball of mozerella, dinner was as planned a roast with chicken, using up freezer greens (still such a strong taste for my liking!) carrots and peas.
My chunky veg soup bag was compromised so lost all of the liquid so i added a little water and blended it a little. Some went as a mash for my daughter who seems very happy and the rest i added a little more water to and blended further. Will get through that this afternoon or tomorrow i think.
My TGTG bag last night has maybe 10 turnips... never had those before so need recipes. What kind of taste are they do you know?Follow here for the daily life of an ADHD mum with 2 children and a new mortgage to pay

I saw those hot cross buns in Morries when we went to collect a TGTG bag a couple of weeks ago and thought yuk! Not for me at all (well I don't eat hot cross buns anyway but DH does). They were also reduced but they stayed in the shop! We did pick up some ordinary ones reduced though.
@MissRikkiC - I only use turnips in a stew or casserole but might be worth a Google "turnip recipes" - that's what I do when I can't think of what to do with something! I'm sure you could probably make a soup from some of them - soup works for most veg!

Left over smoked salmon and asparagus flan from yesterday. A bit sparse on the asparagus. it's only just started to poke its head out of the soil. Rice pudding to follow, no doubt I'll use the last of a jar of strawberry jam as DH loves a dollop in the middle of his, I'm not so fussed as it's too sweet for me. It's funny that over the years my sweet tooth has taken a backward step. It's ages since I made rice pud but I had some full fat milk which needed using up from last weekend before it went off.4

My mother used to mash turnips with potatoes, sometimes she used swede, which she also called turnip.
I think the taste is very similar, but is nice raw as well.
Soups, slaw or root mash would be my suggestion for turnips but there's a Scottish dish called rumbledethump which says turnips but again may mean swede 😁1 -
I have found a french dish which subs out potatoes in favour of turnips so going to attempt that. Seems similar to dauphinois only with a cheesey sauce instead. Will see how that goes down with lamb for this evenings dinner!Follow here for the daily life of an ADHD mum with 2 children and a new mortgage to pay
